I currently have my developer chasing me for 1100sterling for electricty, which is for 3 months use, despite requests fora breakdown, even have my lawyer has pursued him, nothing back, now the power has been cut off as he has not paid the bill - the account is in his name - not mine. Can anyone advise as to roughly what 3 months usage would be, we are on builders electric, I am the only person living there, however he has builders on site for the last 6 months using power tools etc etc and his employees were\in fact still are living in the next building with lights on 24\7. Can i go the electricity company myself and ask for my own meter or do I have to wait until the building\development is finished. I will name and shame the developer later on, if he has not contacted me within a week.

We are paying over 400tl per month and we were only using TV, computer and other basic items. No pool etc. Rate was about 90tk per unit as opposed to about 30tk on standard domestic tariff. So if you can compare to that then paying 1200tl would have been more appropriate. If as sounds you are paying for the whole site then £1100 would be nearer the mark.

I think your builder has given you a price in the wrong currency, as other threads have said builders is roughly 3x times more, so 1200 ytl is more like it. Pity you can't get rid of builders supply and buy a Generator, it must work out cheaper than 1100 sterling

Until you get your own supply, you will be at the mercy of the landowner/builders electric. If he doesn't pay the bill then it will be cut off. Do you have electricity infrastructure in place, transformer etc on your site? How many houses on the site? If the builder has not put in the infrastructure according to your contract, you can employ a company privately, like Sinsan for example, who can complete this on behalf of the buyers, however this will obviously be at an additional cost. Or if the landowner agrees, you can put in a seperate meter to your house so you know exactly what you are using, but it is still his supply so if he doesn't pay his share, again it will be cut off. The only other alternative is to get a generator, but long term this will be probably be costly and noisey etc. You are welcome to come to the HBPG surgery at the Pia Bella in Girne on tuesdays 12-3pm if you want more advice Sibel

Thanks for the info, will be back in Cyprus soon and will come and meet with you, to discuss the problems, have got my lawyer dealing with this just now. As the builder has become more childish in his approach.

When you pay to change over from builders electricity to tariff 2, is it cheaper if you have a cypriot sponsor.

Lazerlight I live in 3 bed villa with pool. Currently running pool pump for 2 hours per day. I am retired and am in the house most of the day watching tv, on computer, making coffee etc. Our recent monthly bills have not exceeded 170TL. Monthly bills will go up as the weather gets warmer due to aircon being on and having to run pool pump for longer. Hope this helps. Paul

We have 3 bed with pool and pool on for only 1 hour a day at the moment. I am careful and try not to use the oven too much. I wash once a week but several quick wash loads. We are 3 adults, all with own computers, TV etc and ours is averaging about 180TL per month.

actually, of course electric bill is not high becuse air-cond is not running i was talking about mid-july - august bill - when the weather is so hot that you cannot not put the i cond to sleep unless you want to wake up all wet like if you went into the pool - i have no pool - it is not a pb for us because we do not stay there always but electricity is very expensive ( comparing to france) in cyprus more you use more you paid the KWH in france it is in the opposite - but that's the price to pay to be in beautiful cyprus and not regrets
