there are quite a few non turkish speaking children who go to the local schooland i believe a year on and they are happy and fluent speakers.

if you go to five finger restuarant in ozankoy the lady who owns it is called libby, her children go there and she can maybe give you some experienced infomation.

and of course meet other parents and introduce ur children to each other, she is very friendly so sure she wont mind.

i have the impression it is a very friendly ,accommodating, helpful school and the children reflect this in character.

mess 1 - just think it's awfuly selfish putting her into a Turkish speaking school - at least put your hands into your poscets and send her to an English speaking private school...

If you cannot afford it you probably should stick with the Uk until she's flown the nest....

I think sending children to the local state schools is by far the best idea. What could be better than growing up and playing with the local children and becoming bi-lingual. You couldn't give them a better start, if you intend to stay in the TRNC.

nik

do u haved children or have the experience of seeeing effects of children at both schools

there are alot of advantages to local schools and if the lady wanted to pay for extra tuition they could polish up on their turkish or any other subject she wishes

all that glitters is not gold with some schools nick

her children will be fluent within a year......why u have to pass judgment on others parenting choices

ur very niave

Post edited. Please read Rule 3 - ltd

my children went to private school here and if i could turn the clock they would have gone to local school

private and local schools legally have to cover the same turkish curriculum by turkish staff as i have lately come to understand, this should be implemented by all schools as it is a ruling from ministry of education.

so apart from the language barrier the local school is the best option in long run

no need to reply nik as i wont be visiting this site again

nick - my kids have just come home with their school reports from the local Turkish school, which they started in September, and they have both done really well.

My son can now have a proper conversation in Turkish, my daughter can understand but is still shy of speaking it at home, they have made some good friends who live locally which they will have for years to come, unlike some of the english friends they made at school last year who have moved back to England.

They go to an after-school club where they get help with their homework, and which is also a social thing, as they get to play and talk with Turkish speaking children. I was worried about sending them to the local school at first, but can honestly say that they are happy and I have no regrets.

I would certainly say that it is not for everyone, but it has been very good for my children.

Do the kids start the local schools the September after their 5th birthday? Anyone have any knowledge on how the new local school at Karakum is going?

Thanks very much
