I wonder if there are subjects we should not write or read about or discuss on a (this) Bulletin Board. Avoid news facts (although reported in all the local news papers) when some members don't like to read about it? Or when they feel the news fact is too close for comfort? Or not fit for youngsters? Or..?

What are your criteria?

Mine are: All the news that's fit to print, because news is news - whether you like the news or not.

I do agree with your comments DC. There are always some things in the news locally and indeed globaly that we find shocking and uncomfortable. I believe that if the facts are layed out it would stop the stupid gossiping that this island is renouned for. Yes some threads are sensitive, but some news is huge and affects whole communities. Let the moderaters state the facts of the news for everyone to see in an unbiased fashion. Not delete threads stating facts .

I tend to agree with you, however there is a difference between a bulletin board and the printed media.

Bulletin boards invite opinion and dare I say it gossip whereas the printed media (at least the better ones) don't. In some circumstances this makes a bulletin board an unsuitable medium.

The reason the thread was edited and then closed, as I stated on the thread you are all talking about was because of the many requests from forum members to do just that.

Could I point you to rule number 4!

I don't really think many things are taboo, as long as the debate stays civilised, problems arise when some go to far.

Others will just stir the pot to get a rise out of people or have an agenda of their own.

Then the mods must act, they are dammed if they do, dammed if they do not.

So don't moan at the mods, moan at the people spoiling for a fight everyday and forcing the mods to act.

Dutch

I do not always agree with your sentiments, but on this occasion I feel I must wholeheartedly agree with you, why make a difference between debating on people making a fool of themselves at a darts match, or the killing in the Gaza strip which people so vociferously tune into and contribute so vociferously to, and something which happens on our doorsteps so to speak, shame on you hypocrites, it is already front page in the media, yet you deny people abroad the opportunity to express themselves, sentiments should be expressed and condolences given where appropriate, however gossip should be contained, and if necessary moderated, with restraint.
