hi silvie unfortunatly the only legal way to get taxi from larnaca or paphos would be to get south taxi to take you to the crossing, leave him south walk across the border then get into north taxi, the reason north taxi drivers cover up the T on the vehicles is because they are not allowed to work in the south!!! strange but true, so in answer to your question im as legal as anyone else. hope this is ok Trevor

Susie F I can confirm, £40 to £45 is the correct fare each way to Larnaca. I am not sure trevor is correct in mess10? When i get a taxi, they do have to remove there taxi sign at the border before crossing, then replace it when coming back. Ensure he is registered in NC....also whilst needing six seats, consider how much suit case room you will need!...a people carrier may be more suitable?

hi no cant do 6 unfortunatly you will have to find someone with merc to take that many i have estate car will take max 4 pax, good luck if you need anymore help just let me know i may be able to find someone for you if you dont get any luck here. i think ibo as message 8 above is pretty good. i dont know him personaly but i do know people whi use him. stewart why does your taxi remove their sign at the border? i may stand corrected re as to why they do that! but surely its illigal to deface your registration number anyway! if they remove the T then they cannot be classed as taxi!!!!!! just a thought trevor

Dear trevor They have to remove the "taxi" sign on top of their car when crossing, I assume that it is because in the south, they are not classed as taxi....all their paperwork / insurance is always checked at the border ( both sides ) They do not deface their reg Thought you might have known this?.. Thought your comment was very strange about not being allowed to work in the south?...my taxis never have a problem, they are allowed through..with the top sign removed, I have used this methods many times to Larnaca and Paphos, including Taxis sent by the hotel. ( only TCs are allowed ...no turks )

hi Stewart Think you sumed it up nicely ie in south they are not classed as taxi!!!! thought covering up part reg number is defacing it, !!!! Trevor

any and all north cyprus " official taxis " going south cover the " t " on their number plate. Here is the dilemma..... Do I use an official taxi ??? He drives like a loonie , on his phone smoking a fag and turning around to talk to me as he drives from Kyrenia - the border BUT IS INSURED FOR HiRE OR REWARD takes about 20 minutes. He continues on to Larnaca in the same manner approximately 1 hour insured third party only, if he is in a crash and you are injured YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL COSTS !! Or Do you use the nice ex pat that is not insured for Hire or reward in the north BUT drives like steady eddie nice trip YOU FEEL SAFE you do not have WHITE KNUCKLES. you get to the border he continues on in the same safe manner. Now the choice is yours.

Have used official TRNC taxis 6 times for journeys to the south and back, each time promising never again. Always use an expat driver, they stay awake and on the whole are much more carefull drivers who dont try to eat a kebab/talk on phone/smoke or place bets while driving!!!
