they can't make any money out of the one in Esentepe, so who would be daft enough to build another one in Lapta ??

Then again...

Sorry Stewart....I didn't think you were being serious.

I've become a bit cynical regarding all the so-called "proposed" developments in NC.

My apologies.

To my knowledge there are no plans to build a golf course at or near Lapta.

There was talk about one being built on the old Mare Monte hotel site but that has ended up in the rough.

Stewart....I'm sure any Estate Agent selling property in Lapta will fill your head with the fantastic potential of this "proposed" golf course, and how it will treble the value of your villa !

would be a lovely idea though. Perhaps more courses would bring the cost down.

There were plans too build a golf course next too the Merit Hotel and past the Mare Monte Hotel in Alsancak. There is enough land there, but if it is still going ahead is another matter.

Whats happening with the one in Esentepe... re they can't make it pay....

I was thinking of joining up with my son at one time but the highly inflated prices charged as mentioned before on this forum put me off.

I suppose it's all relative but are the prices too high relative to the price of living in TRNC... could an your everyday ordinary hard working local populace afford to join or are they outpriced?

A load of misinformation Mr Cronos

Korinium has a very flourishing TC membership the amount of local people who are taking up the sport is increasing.

The cost of joining is no more than joining a Gold Club of an equal standard in the UK.

It is far cheaper i asure you than a membership in Spain.

As regards the golf club at Alsancak it is reputably going to be developed by the owners of the Merit who i believe are Turkish Airlines nothing as yet acept for an anouncement in the press 2 years ago.

Merit Hotels and casinos are owned and operated by Net Holdings, not Turkish Airlines.

There are plans for a golf course in the areas around and between Merit and the old Mare Monte but as far as I'm aware they are on hold for the moment. Merit has closed Cyprus Gardens Hotel and Casino in Famagusta and has just laid off approximately 50% of the workforce from Crystal Cove as well as reducing their gaming floors.

Hi Hippo,

That was the point of my question really... if the prices are equivalent to UK prices how is that justified when TRNC advertises a much lower cost of living?

My youngets son is 19 and pays our local golf club about £500 per annum for full membership. It is a private club with full amenities and a beautiful course.

So could he join Korineum for the equivalent amount and if not how much would it cost?

I bow to your greater knowledge.

mess 16 - well talked up Hippo - but there isn't enough membership activity there to warrant the place staying open.

How much do you think it cost to build ?

Am I close?

Joseph, I think you will find the cost of the golf course is approx 3 times what you were hoping, plus joining fee.

It isn't cheap i agree but then again it isnt expensive but i am only a Hippo and can not say what is expensive or not expensive depends on your circumstances income etc.

The fees are easily available to be viewed on the Korinium website.

For example a family membership is 4000 euroes in the first year and 2000 in subsequent years.

Hi Hippo ... Thanks for the info

So a family membership, say myself and son, you're looking close to £6000.00?

Wow... I would say that is about 3 times what we pay here in the UK at our local club, which again has superb amenities etc.

£6000 works out circa £120.00 per week, could a local really afford that, I thought that would represent a months wages, though I am not sure?

If these figures are right Hippo I am not surprised the club is struggling.

Hippo apologies,

I misread, I should have begun with the figure of £4000 not £6000..?

Which would work out nearer £80.00 per week... still too rich for me

But thanks anyway, regards J.
