Was playing the Academy as my friends and I do weekly, anything up to 8 of us play, cannot afford membership, played off the 3 tees and went to go round again, the marshall flagged us off and said it is now 19tl per 3 tee round, that makes it 57tl for 9 holes. When did this rule come in, have they now got enough members not to want the regular players who cannot afford membership or the fees for the main course?

Its always been the case...you are allowed only one round for the 19TL fee.... 9 times out of 10 you will get away with more than one round...but i think they are clamping down. I agree they should be doing more to encourage more people to join...it is way too expensive at the mo.... and is losing money hand over fist...its high time they did away with the joining fee altogether and lowred the prices... its ok saying they want to keep it exclusive but there is not enough people on the island to warrant this.

hi you can join the academy for a yearly fee plus joining fee which means you can play as much as you want on three hole course. should you then become well off you can upgrade to main course.

My dad became a full member and found it to hard going, he's 76. So he elected to just play the academy holes. Oh no was the reply! So the next year he didnt pay the full whack he just paid the academy price. Who's won here? Common sense is not common in TRNC

I am not a golfer and cannot understand anything about it but my nephew does and he's coming to visit. Can anyone tell me how much it would be for him to spend a morning or afternoon playing? He'd need to hire clubs too.

Loopyloo- Korineum has its own web site which you can refer to for fees etc. Your nephew may be interested in taking a look before his visit.

Why not have a round of golf at CMC instead it is so much cheaper. Totally different course and might be an experience for some. 30ytl for 18 holes for non-members. Bit cheaper than Korineum I would say. Chris

nurseawful, not to sound bad but it is all relevant as to the type of course you play on!! Compare apples to apples and all. For a good course in the med and middle east its certainly not expensive. I dont think its 100 gbp per round, I didnt pay thay in march and it will get cheaper in summer. One thing i will say is the joining fees are quite high. Other than that keep up the very good work.

The web site advises summer (low season) rates as Euro 42 for 18 holes and buggy 19 Euros. I make that a little over 50 pounds. When compared to the South and to Arabian Gulf prices this would seem quite competitive for a course of this quality. Nurseawful- whereabouts is CMC and what type of course is it?

CMS golf club is in Yesiyurt which is north of Guzelyurt. Which is west of Kyrenia. Rcroton quite rightly pointed out it is not the same course as Korineum and I did not infer it was. Nor did I mention how much it was, I didn't actually know Korinium prices! Anyway twoexpats you play of browns not greens at CMC Which I believe is some kind of mixture of oil and sand, but don't quote me on that, as the other half not in at the minute I can't ask him. Not doubt somebody out there will correct me if I am wrong. You need smooth sole trainers or shoes to play there. If you want any more info let me know and I can find out for you. Chris

thanks nurseawful- I have had experience of playing on similar courses in the Gulf so I am aware of the type of course. Might just take a look when we are next over. When I was quoting the prices at Korineum I was responding to message 15 which suggested it was a 100 pounds for a round.

rcroton; when comparing your apples remember that Korineum has no peer and can and does charge what it thinks the (limited) market will bear. In the middle east and even in the south (roc) there is competition and a higher spend per golfing capita. Bearing this in mind Korineum is expensive for the market it serves and were it not for the owner would not be financially viable. CMC on the other hand is run by and for it`s members and is an excellent example of anglo Turkish co-operation at realistic (local) prices. In other words, it lives within it`s means.

I didn't know there was another golf club and that type of surface sounds interesting. When I said 100 quid, I was thinking about the whole experience, i.e. fees, buggy, clubs, maybe shoes, I don't kow. As I said, I don't play so don't really know. I'll check out CMS too. Thanks.

| Played at Korineum a couple of weeks ago, it has come on a treat from 18mths ago. Greens & fairways 1st class. Semi rough is also taking hold in some areas as well. It worked out at £47 for the round, I don't think that is bad. It will get even cheaper from 1st June. It's well worth a visit and the scenery is out of this world. Well done to all the greenstaff. | Korineum is a top class golf course and is very good value. If you need convincing look here at what many in Cyprus consider to be an inferior course http://www.aphroditehills.com/cyprus_golf/3/8026/Green_Fees Yes, that's 150 Euros!! So please don't listen to the comments that Korineum Golf Club is expensive, its not! CMC is a very enjoyable track but its not in the same league as Korineum, which is a Championship setup and is a stunning golf course. You pay your money and take your chance as they say. |

In fairness Korineum like Aphrodite is not a golf club per se, It is a company run country club with a golf course attached and therefore the "members" have very little say in the day to day business of the course. It is a superb facility but in the context of the North Cyprus economy it is a tad expensive. Comparing it with other facilities in the med is disingenuous in the extreme.

re Msge 27, I have to disagree with your conclusion although, I do agree it is a commercial enterprise. There are very few members only clubs in tourist areas, particularly the med. Korineum has a very good member committee/management setup, they work together to improve standards and the club systems to the benefit of all players. It has little to do with the TRNC economy, neither does Vilamoura green fees reflect Portugal's economy a rather simplistic relationship in my opinion. Korineum aims its product at the Scandinavian, UK and German golf tourism markets and the prices are set accordingly. Members have significant discounts and to pay and play its a match for anything on the island, fact!

Coffer; Point taken, although one or two members were somewhat aggrieved at the hogging of decent tee times by recent Swedish tourists. The captain who is a good man tells me that consultation between golf committee and management is improving albeit slowly but that doesn`t alter the fact that members interests come second to the product.

Well very interesting were the comments :Korineum has a very good member committee/management setup, they work together to improve standards and the club systems to the benefit of all players: Does this also mean that they are now working together to play golf as golf rules dictate or to play it to whatever benefits the members ?
