Hi, when I applied for my first years temp resid. just over a year ago I had £10,000 in the Bank which I think was the required amount then.went back to renew it a few weeks ago to be told there was a problem with the Bank Account not so much the amount in it (its hardly been touched) but because regular amounts had not been paid in and drawn out, so how was I living. As I still have property in the U.K. which is rented out and the income from that is paid into U.K. Bank Account which is what I use to live on I have now got to get all the info from the U.K. and then take it to them even though they may still not accept this. I tried explaining that I use the hole in the wall to pay bills, food etc., but will just have to wait and see what happens when I go back in a few weeks time. No doubt the rules will have changed again by then. Sorry can`t be more helpful. Best of luck Lesleyb

friends had similar problem as msg 4. It is no good having a "dormant" account because it does not show how you are living. As Lesleyb says she was using funds via a UK account but could have been using illicit source of funds, that is wht the check. This indicates a multi rule of bank account information, ie not just how much and where but how.

They are trying to make sure that expats are not working on the black economy. If you can prove that you have income from pensions or savings accounts either UK or TRNC based bank accounts (preferably TRNC based) then you should be ok provided that your income equates to the TRNC monthly minimum wage which I think stands around the 1200 Tl mark at the moment. If you cannot prove otherwise then you may have problems. AJ

if you bank with bank of scotland off shore you can get the account registered to your trnc address. that helps, as you can transfer funds from the uk into it, and have it registered at your address.

such a grey area , one friend has just applied for residency ( only around 30 years old) could not show any regular income, parents transferred some money to her account (just to show a bank balance ), did this the same day as going for residency, although they have not yet collected it, how can this seem to be ok, they have a long time to work from that age. Yet, know of a pensioner with savings also, who is struggling to obtain temp resid again. Cant say 100% that the 30 yr old has actually collected it, but did not come across same probs as the pensioner...yet. Thanx for messages so far, if anyone else can shed any further light through recent applications, much appreciated.

Would be interested to here if your 30 year old gets T.Res. The paper work may have been accepted but it is at Immigration in Lefkosa where decision is made. Our friends ended up being interviewed by police, long interviews at immigration before they got renewal. Issue for 30 year old is how are they going to earn an income, no work permits are going to be issued now, unemployment is growing here and quite rightly the government are become protectionist.

The rule is. You must show ability to maintain yourself and your family without working. The amount varies depending which clerk deals with your case. Documentary evidence of a pention, or regular transfer of money to the bank, or lump same money deposited to a bank. It is expected the regular monthly income to be about £1000. If you are bringing money with you when you came in, declair it to the custums. As profe that the money is ures.
