Come on recommend your favourite place.

Tell us why.

Tell us how much.

Tell us where.

Tell us the phone number (if poss).

And for the few who want to be negative (no problem in my eyes) places you avoid and why.

Pink Chilli, I have to say best place is Guido`s

I know I`m going to start Hippo off, but it`s a fact as far as we are concerned.

Everybody know`s it`s in Alsancak, main road almost opposite golden lady.

25 tl for three courses of well cooked, sunday lunch and the menu is always varied re starters and desserts every week.

Have tried several places and although, some of them are very good, I`ll always go back to Guido`s,

We have had an excellent Sunday roast at Oleander in the past, not been since October so can't speak for the present time. Not been to Waterfront (Ruth from Farmhouse) but had a good roast at Farmhouse when it was open.Sele Restaurant in Turkish quarter in Girne was very good also.

I too thought Sele was a good lunch, but it was so dark and cold in there, we were not comfortable.

Had a great sunday lunch/dinner (they serve sunday "lunch" until 8.00p.m.) last week in the Old Mill, Ozankoy. Their chef is excellent.

Had several and would not put any of them above average to good, certainly not to recommend.

Afraid NN is correct, like Fish and Chips, everyone has jumped on the bandwagon to catch a particular sector of the market.

The only certainty you will have is if the cook runs the place ie Waterfront, Guidos, Grumpy Grouse and you can be assured of same quality every time.

When you move to TRNC does it mean you forget how to do your own Sunday Lunch.Surely that must be better than some restraunt doing it for you.I eat during the week but Sundays is the wifes day,she loves cooking Sunday lunch, and we can both have a few glasses ot the redstuff...

Went to Kings Bar today and had their roast beef dinner as did my wife. My daughter and grandson had the chicken. We all thought the meals were fantastic; beautifully cooked and plenty of it and all for TL15.00 per head.

We shall return....

Can anyone tell me if Stevies does a good selection of veg? I would like to see more of a variety of veg in rests over here. Parsnips, cauli cheese, peas, swede. Some roasted peppers and onions would be nice too.Maybe I am expecting too much but variety is the spice of life and I like my veg!Anyway everyone says Stevies is good so I am going to have to try there.

hi sarap i agree with you re the vegs. I love my veg but you know its very difficult to find sweede or parsnips either side. We have them imported via holland together with savoy cabbage. the rest you can get here all adds to the variety. some goods restaurants mentioned i would like to try steves.when i get a day off xxx

I started this thread whilst looking for places to go.

Now that the weather has warmed up, I'm not interested in Sunday Lunches.

Do I have the right to want my own thread closed?

If not, where's the best place to eat now that the weather has improved? Evenings only please!

It is true that service plays a very important role in the running of a restaurant. Personnally, i really agree that restaurant should try it's best to offer customer prompt and convinient service. Customer usually become impatient when they can't get timely service, and they have to cry out loudly or keep waving hands, restaurant calling system can help to solve this problem, it includs buttons that placed on tables, and display sreen carried by waiters, when customers need service he just need to press buttons and then waiters will receive it. You can find the similar products on website such as http://www.finyelectronics.com

After 5 years have tried most restaurants and the only one that has remained consistent is Tervetuloa on the Merit road

Food excellent

Service same (Staff not in your face)

beautiful Garden courtyard (not on dusty road)

Music to dine to (you can have a conversation)

Price best value for money

Does not claim to have cooked for kings or to have won any awards But it is good home made food.

Pink chilli - I agree with you, who wants"sunday lunch"!! We go to Green Valley - down the Stadium road (Mare Monte road) at Alsancak. No roast beef to be seen! We usually go there for sunday lunch, sit under the fig tree and enjoy. He does same roughly same menu in evenings unless is is a 'special' like a Cyprus night. Main courses are pretty universally 20tl but you get loads of mezes, fruit, coffee and brandy included - well we do!! Tuesday is Cyprus night with a fixed menu, 30tl and Friday is Traditional Turkish music and a fixed menu for 30tl - the other nights are al a carte, with karoke on a Sat.

Fresh roasted meat, cooked on Sunday morning, sizzling skin and rare centre (beef and lamb), with natural gravy and appropriate sauces and mustards, served with crunchy roast spuds and fresh seasonal vegetables - in North Cyprus - not available anywhere but at home!!

Lilli - you know I love you, but having lived here for six years and posted restaurant reviews in the local press, we have vowed to eat in on Sundays, having been consistently let down at all the Sunday Lunch emporia. The meat; beef, pork, or lamb is ALWAYS COOKED THE DAY BEFORE, thus it is never fresh, but cold or warmed up in a microwave oven and doused in ananymous brown liquid filth purpporting to be natural gravy sauce. It is not possible to deliver the promise - SUNDAY LUNCH AVAILABLE ALL DAY. It's usually pre-cooked, re-heated garbage!!

The one time we had freshly roasted meat is when we ordered chicken at a well known Kyrenia eaterie, on being delivered by motor scooter the chicken was excellent, but twice the price if it had been delivered to our house!!!

Now Lilli, if you are promising a genuine home cooked FRESH roast lunch on a Sunday, we'll be there like a shot. Please tell. XX

hi bilko i think its better if i answer you rather than lilli. i agree with you that who adv a lunch available all day serve garbage food. it is impossible to keep the food hot-warm that long!!!. Let me tell you how we prepare sunday lunch. i only use sirloin which i personally hang for at least 12 days. i roast the beef for 20 minutes so it still rare when come out of the oven. at the same time i roast the pork with the skin on top once i cleaned the fat so i can have some cracklings ( i use the fat as a base for the pork so he get more flavours). i use the beef tray to prepare the gravy mixing the pork and the beef juice. i thicken the sauce with oo flour and lots of red wine. most of the time i serve roast parsley and mashed sweeds with roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli or cabbage. the starters always vary because i cannot serve the usual boring crap like pate or prawn cocktail or soup. last sunday the starter was fried sardines fillets or tomato onion continue

and basil salad. for dessert i normally have chocolate mousse pannacotta and another dessert that i make in the morning. sometime i do chicken as well. my yorkshire puddings are baked with the beef juice and everything it's cooked on sunday morning. nothing it's frozen or pre-coocked. that is way i charge 25 tl and not 15 or 20.if ou se fresh products and freshly cook sunday lunch it is mathematicly impossible to produce a meal of my quality for any less that i charge.

Well, in the "cold times," The Red Lion in Alsancak, on the road to Deniz Kizey Hotel, you had to book by the Tuesday of the week or you could not get in. They only cater for about 24 on a Sunday, in there words, "to get it right for the 24" ,they seat more. And nice it was, all the veg, Swede, Brussels plus the norm, Yorkshires, Roast and Mash. Well done to the Red Lion, top marks for the best Sunday lunch. They still do them now, but im waiting untill the cold spell again to get down there by the Log burner.
