Stayed at the Altinkaya in the Summer 2007, beware of the family they tried to flog us a house, made our holiday a nightmare, we already bought and all they were interested was to sell houses, kept away from Bar very Expensive, they charged us £ 4 for a small glass of Whisky and £ 20 for a Fish Meze.

I suppose we are talking about the hotel just below Belepais here and not some other premises that's been given the same name are we?

If its the former then we've stayed at the Altinkaya a number of times in the past whist waiting for our house to be built. Always thought the bar was part of the hotel and not a separate entity. Agree with LaptaDave with regard to the bar prices but then it is a hotel.

Must respond in defence of Karen and Wayne,

the Residence bar is actually separate from the hotel and is directly across the road, the prices are no more expensive than your average prices.

It is, as described by Karen a really good venue give it a try, any new business deserves the chance.

Went to the opening a few months ago and had a great time.

They do not know me and I have no financial interests in the establishment.

We have also spent some very enjoyable times at the Altinkaya Bar where Karen and Wayne recently took over, the food is also to be recommended, especially Sunday roast, have always received a warm welcome. Friends have also stayed at the Hotel on the opposite side of the road and were more than happy. Good luck to Karen and Wayne.

hi everbody thank you so much for your lovley kind words you have said about wayne and myself and of course the bar , sorry to here about the person how had a bad experance at the altinkia hotel witch is accross the road to our bar , even though wayne and my self stayed there for three mounths and found it the compleat oppersite to the experance he had had . i would just like to say that the bar is compleatly seprate to the hotel ,thats why it is called the resuandance lounge , i would like to also add that the prices are very competive to all the other bars around and all our draft beer is only 3 ytl, our sunday lunch is a three course all home made , beef or lamb starter and a choice of afters for only 18 ytl but we would advise to book as we sell out every sunday 05338374365/9 , our address is on the bellapais road oppersite the hotel thankyou agian for all your kind words karen and wayne

Good Luck to guys and I do agree with some of th other comments about the original owners who run the bungalows. They are very money orientated and have sold a house to my cousin. overcharged him on the cost and did not produce a good quality house as promised. And all the extras for the house cost an arm and a leg. But I am sure you have nothing to do with them and trying to run an honest business. I will be over end of February an will try to visit you.

To the Altinkaya Residence.

We visted the Altinkaya, We did not find your prices Competive. We were charged 40 ytl for 4 Local Drinks. After complaining to you, u said, Entertainment is not for free and do you now how much Rent i am paying on this establishment. With a business mind like that the Altinkaya will not go far.

julie -------- there will always be people who like one thing or another, thats why we have choices , there are establishments who charge more than others , it might be because of more salubrious surrounding and in a round about way the customer pays for this , so unless you are happy to pay for this you dont go back there ! karen and wayne introduced themselves to this forum as the new owners promoting their new business [ their livelihood ]. so to comment about the prices you paid or indeed did not pay , is not relevent and should not be compared to previous owners .these people are trying to make a living like all hardworking people and providing a service to people like us , who would moan if there was'nt. karen & wayne mine's a g & t we are in famagusta but will come to your bar in support . we are there in april . so if there is anybody belonging to this forum there at the same time lets meet up in karen & waynes . What do you think ????????

have a great day all simbas

Karen and Wayne

Dont let people like Julie Smith get you down and dont even give them the courtesy of a reply, if their allegations are true it is possible it happened before you took over, I notice they joined on the 11th of Jan, could it possibly be a competitor or someone with a grudge, it smells like one that was exposed on this board before, and if it is, we dont need these liars and mud slingers here,

Just returned back from the TRNC, we stayed at our apartment at TBV. On our 1st Sunday over there, we had a Sunday lunch at the Altinkaya. The 3 courses were excellent, and good value for money at 18YTL. A pint of Efes is 3 YTL.

They had a live Premier game on at night. All in all, a great restaurant/bar. Wayne makes you feel welcome, and is a good crack.

On our 2nd Sunday there, we could not get a Sunday lunch there because we did not pre-book. This is a testament to how good the meal is, when it is full.

Keep up the good work Karen & Wayne.

Cheers

Bob & Anne.

hi

you said that you have no connection with the altinkaya hotel but i know Fahri & his family do 100% still own Altinkaya Residence so i am very confused

try this site- http://www.altinkaya-cyprus.com

all is not what it seems

i know Fahri spent a lot of money doing up the rooms at altinkaya residence & very nice they are to but not so much on the bar or the indoor swimming pool which is now a store room is he going to do that up & open it again then for summer.

i was told today that he was going to hand over the running of it to his cousin very soon i will have to ask but that will have to wait until in the week when he gets to the uk when i hope to catch up with him for lunch if not it will have to wait until i get to cyprus in may.

I have stayed at the hotel many years ago before i got to know Fahri & always found him to be a fair man & yes he does build houses but i must say very good quality ones I know many people who are more than happy with them.

NO I DO NOT WORK FOR HIM LIKE THOSE IN ALTINKAYA RESIDENCE & could not give two hoots who anyone buys a house from its up to them not me, there are hundreds of people who have very different opinions of builders good & bad & no i do not get commission in anyway shape or form from anyone in cyprus i just think people should be honest it would make life very easy & we would all know where we stand in life.

Anyway whats so wrong with Fahri still owning the Altinkaya Residence & why say it has no connection with the hotel when it does.

Anyway friends went in a few weeks ago & entertainment was cancelled at the last minute messed the night up before it started tried again the following week or week after that & the same thing about the 3rd or 4th time its happend not enough people so yet again they had been disapointed

Hear that the guy that done the entertainment was none to pleased as he was not told until he got there.

hear the new year dinner was 100ytl per person with drinks will you be doing one next new year?

Do any of you people who have done a reply live or rent on the same complex as kaz13 maybe you can rent us some cheap places for the summer.

Simbas,

we were there in November and April last year. The bar across the road opened during our stay in November. The waiters that we had got to know from our April stay in the hotel (really nice lads) were on a rota for spending time at both venues. Residents could also stay and use the facilities of both venues. I was impressed by the high standard and friendliness of the staff in the Altinkya and would not hesitate to recommend. However Lindsey is correct they are one concern. Perhaps Kaz and hubby simply run/lease the bar rather than have ownership? It really does not matter its a nice place regardless.

I would just like to clear this up once and for all, for anyone who has missunderstood(lyndy)! not that i should need to!!!

Although the altinkya hotel and the residence lounge opposite are both owned by fahri, they are run as two seperate concerns, with myself and my husband running the residence lounge.having said this, this sort of business should not be dicussed on public forums! and should be kept between myself ,my husband and fahri. In future if you have anything to discuss regarding the business i would appriciate you dealing with it privately and professionally with myself,as would fahri. it appears you think you know alot about my personel business , so you ought to know if there are places to rent on my complex, there for you should talk to me personally and not through the computer !!!! regards kaz 0533 837 4369

i know kaz ,but dont upset yourself its just not worth it , some people just like to be a little officious , , they obviously dont know everything or they would have known that your bar was a separate concern it was unfortunate that they felt they had to go that far as to contact someone ,all a bit petty and uncalled for i thought , but that is human nature is'nt it . sometimes not attractive

Kaz

That is exactly the mistake you made - trying to promote yourself through forums - you leave yourself open to all sorts of snipers and give them ammunition when there are some untruths (or vague inuendo) told.

Get on with running the business you are renting from Fahri and dont let the knockers get you down.

The North Cyprus knockers tore my friend apart on this forum, with lies and jealous inuendo, which were soon shown for what they were, but there are a lot more nice and genuine people on here than the few bad eggs, and on other forums, once again good luck and I will be back in to see you soon

Karen and Wayne Good luck to both of you.

You will have our support in May. Dont worry about idiots that have no idea of running business and that you have rented the property from the owner.

May you all ways have tons of washingup to do.

Hi Karen and Wayne

Coming out end of week for a month. Hope to come and see you for a drink or two, maybe Sunday lunch. We are near Karakum Lemar so you should be within walking or staggering distance.

Hi Karen,

Some folks believe they know it all and that to know Fahri they think they have an insight into his and your business, but as always lack of actual knowlegde leads some peolple to assume wrongly.Don't be put off by comments that have very little basis in reality ,When one is in business one will always get the snipes it is in the nature of some people to attempt to put down those who are trying to be successful, it is an attempt to cover up their own inadequacies.

See you and Wayne tonight.

Terry.

so what is the point of having a forum & freedom of speech if we are not allowed to comment on what we want to without being restricted or being slated just because we agree with other people who have not always got good things to say about a subject is this not how we all learn & gain information as well as knowledge about life in cyprus which helps us to CHOOSE FREELY or are we not allowed to do that just because the truth is not always what people want to hear

Dont use a forum as a free advert & then winge just because not all comments are positive why not use those comments to help improve things or see what you can do to attract more customers.

As for discussing things in private you can not have things all your own way dont put free adds on a forum & open yourself to the public if you are not prepared to hear what everyone has to say in public.

Hi all,

With all this publicity about this establishment, we thought we would give it a try, here is our unbiased report of what happened last evening when we popped in for a drink at 5.45pm, the person behind the bar will probably remember us as there were only 8 people in the place, 2 playing pool - 2 watching tv 4 adults and 1 kiddie at the bar, sorry thats 8 and 1/2 the barmaid (eastern european i think ) was behind the bar and engaged in conversation with the group at the bar and enjoying a smoke (i dont like that - personal thing)

We asked for our drinks and were served, prices were average, no problem, the menu boards were advertising a St valentines evening, the little girl was a bit noisy and rowdy, but kids will be kids,

I finished my drink and waited for my wife to finish hers, we were not asked if we would like another drink, so we prepared to leave, as we were about to get up from our stools at the bar a gent appeared and went behind the bar, without acknowledging anybody, he spoke to the barmaid, we got up from our stools and left, there was no acknowledgement from behind the bar, that is our honest report as it happened.

it is a place that I personally ------------------------------------------ you guess !!

Quite a clever way to slag an establisment!!

firstly 5.45pm is a time when most bars and staff will not be at their best, I might also add it is an unusual time for most people to pop in for a drink!! I suppose though that depends on your drinking habits.

The barmaid " Eastern European " what has that got to do with your point ?, hints of racism!!.

I am an non smoker but until such times that a law has passed banning staff smoking then what has that got to do with your point ?.

A child making noise what is new or worth reporting about that ?.

Your so called UNBIASED REPORT, I don't think so, just a simple opinion

would suffice.

Wayne n Karen

Thank you once again for a great night , free buffet (again), good ale good prices, friendly staff super company, great entertainment, some people want BLOOD, do not give them it!

Keep doing what your doing ignore the minority they are truly insignificant.

I really think that this thread should end now! Some people will like the bar, some won't. That's life. What more needs to be said? Is it me or is this thread becoming tedious, defensive and somewhat confrontational?

Just to add my t'pennyworth. I thought smoking was already banned in bars in TRNC, not that anyone takes any notice of the rule.

Hi Derek,

touch a nerve did I ??? my my

When EXACTLY are bar staff at their best,

and I dont know what your gripe is with people popping in for a drink at 5.45 on a Friday night, did you never do it or are you too sanctimonious to admit having a libation on an evening on the way home - grow up

I spoke exactly as I found things and made the point about the people to quite simply prove that we were there when we said we were, nothing more nothing less what we saw was what we saw - and I bet Kaz is loving this it keeps her place right up there on the board

'good on her'

LOL

what does touch a nerve is some nobody telling me to grow up, I'll leave that at that!!.

ok enough is enough. This is now turning into a slanging match and is very similar to the Esentepe Villa Hotel thread a couple of months ago which turned nasty.

I think its time to put this one to bed.

glencoe ,

I did not have a go at the china garden , simply had a bad experience as have several friends recently,

I live here, use the establishment and complained on the night to the manager and had a negative response.

grow up and two faced is bordering on insult please don't go there .

lindy , i totally support your right to express how you feel. all i ask is you keep mine and fahri`s private business out of it.i am willing to take on all comments good or bad, having said this your comments were never about our establishment, just about its ownership! which is nobodys concern.I have since spoken to fahri and he seems to not know you! however he would like to so he can put a stop to this, as would i. kaz

glencoe, i am sorry to hear you didn`t enjoy your visit to the residence lounge. as we are a family bar i cannot exclude children at 5.45pm. however my bar staff know they are not to smoke behind the bar, which she wouldn`t do if i was there.so i will be taking it up with her. as for your comment on her being eastern european i sincerely hope that was so i could pinpoint which member of staff it was!! if however you decide to come again maybe you could come in the evening so i can meet you personally, you may find your next visit to be a happier one, kaz

Hi Kaz,

If you read my post, I did not say I didn't enjoy my visit to your bar, in fact the opposite is true, the place is good and clean and we enjoyed our drinks - the only negatives for us were the fact that the member of staff neglected to ask if we wanted another drink - lost opportunity to sell on - and the smoking behind the bar - as I said in my post PERSONAL THING

And - if I am right - you as proprietors would not like your staff to miss opportunities to increase your till takings, now I re-iterate I did not slag off your establishment and if people read my message 62 they will see that.

I made an honest assessment and overall your establishment is good, but anyone who has been in the trade will know that when the cats away !!!

Well done glencoe

Thats the girl out of a job now, seems to me you must have touched a nerve, so when the cats away the bar will now open at 4pm, not needed anymore no notice just finnish up. at least you noticed the place was clean I wonder who cleaned it ? eastern european girl maybe. Seems hard enough for people who need underpaid jobs with no civil rights to survive here, without the extra burden of the made public honest assessment of a secret shopper in a drinking establishment, laying blame at the one who had a cigarette and never asked you if you wanted the bathroom (oh sorry toilets are free no profit there) or was it another drink. Just give her a little thought when you check on your monthly bank interest and she's looking in an empty purse. any comments should have been directed at the management in private.

glencoe,

I promised myself not to respond to your, lets squirm out of it !!post 82 but the latest from Brian and Linda has changed my mind.

YOU especially know the damage that can be done to people in business and the work place by critical REPORTS.

Your post 65 on the 10th Feb was critical and damming and full of negative comments, your parting shot.." it is a place that I personally....................... you guess "!! WHY did you say that ?, it is nothing short of a cheap stunt, but very effective.

Brian and Linda in my opinion were far too kind with their comments, I believe you got of lightly.

Hi Bradus

At one point I managed to get this thread onto the second page. The only way I managed it was to fill the page with answers to threads under it. That's the only way we can do this.

Hi Simbas, don`t mean to butt in but Kaz and Wayne are no longer at the Altinkaya, at least that is what we`ve heard and they certainly havn`t been there on our last few visits, and its deffo not the same without them, they really made the Altinkaya a nice place to visit. Hope you manage to find another meeting place for everyone. Have a good holiday.

Simbas,

Just returned from TRNC and visited Altinkya a couple of times. Its still the nice friendly bar it has always been. I did note Karen's and Wayne's absence but the staff behind the bar were very welcoming and friendly. Its still a good venue for a meeting.

Yes. The Residence Rooftop Bar is open. It has been for a couple of months. Lots of new entertainment and great evenings on offer.

Tonight (23/07) is Kofte & Karaoke Night. Kofte meal for only 5ytl a head. These themed Food and Karaoke nights are proving to be a great hit and each week it is getting busier, so if you want to eat and sing, make sure you get there early.

Friday night is Ladies Night. Definately a good night out for the girls!!! Have a look at website for more details.

More details on the website including pictures of previous events at http://www.northerncypruslife.com/residencerooftopbar

Would just like to point out that you do not have to eat to enjoy taking part in the Karaoke. This is a special meal deal that is offered but not compulsory.

There is also no charge to enjoy the entertainment provided at the Residence Rooftop Bar tonight and most other nights, unless it is a special evening like the Ladies Night but that does include drink and food.
