Although I have a hunch that the information I have is incorrect, I wish for someone to verify or reject it. I have heard that their indeed are direct flight from the UK to Ercan that change flight numbers somewhere over Italy to avoid being called direct flights for political reasons. Does anyone have any information to share on this issue? If such a think does exists, which airline does this?

The closest thing to this would be the CTA flights to and from Ercan. Same plane right through and you don't get off even though it touches down in Turkey. It always changes flight number at this point prior to departure from the mainland. I know most of you out there are well familiar with that - just thought I'd throw it in to help Tim.

Ive heard the same from a number of sources. In the summer (peak times) there are two flights that leave stansted close to one another. The airline tries to get al the ones going to mainland turkey on one flight and all those to North Cyprus on another - when over turkey airspace they can then change the destination (or maybe they just say they had to land in North cyrus due to a technicalproblem) and so the flight is direct. It seems to be only luck that this happens and if you are being picked up you will be there 2 hours early!

Hi Pat, Happy new year to you. How was Christmas. I had a great holiday with family and friends, didn't want to come back, and that was confirmed by taking 2 and a half hours from landing at Heathrow to eventually leaving the car park, with waiting for luggage and queueing for lifts to the carpark and queueing to get out of the carpark.......etc.....etc..... but hey ho, how did you spend the holidays?

hi guys like i mentioned before to tim who started this thread, there is no direct flights to ercan from anywhere in the world, the only thing that has changed with some kthy flights from london they actually started to say ercan on the flight board rather than just saying dalaman or izmir or antayla, but they have to land in turkey in accordance to the chicargo convention laws which is backed by the u.n, there was only one case last year when a private plane flying from a arab country that took one of their kings to ercan directly and of course the gc's government complained to this hi james long time o hear mate hope you had good x-mas, my god heathrow is a pain unless you are using the picadilly line tube to get home, i much prefer stansted or even gatwick regards ukturk

Hi Erkan - I know you are the font of all knowledge!! but this did happen to us last year. Didn't know a thing about it until the captain started telling us we would be landing at Ercan in 30 mins. Everyone was in a state of shock and thought he must of been drinking to much Rakı! but lo and behold there we were in Ercan, no rental car waiting (cos we were 2 hours early!!) and had to get hubby's cousin out of bed to pick us up!!!! Hope you are well hon!! Karen

| I have been on a flight from Stansted that was supposed to stop in Turkey but actually didn't and went direct in the end. But this was not supposed to happen. CTA did go out of their way though to get anyone who was flying to Antalya off of our plane and onto another that was leaving 15 mins later, therefore there was no-one left on the plane that wasn't going to TRNC. | I have heard of this happening a few times over the past couple of years. If no-one wants to disembark in Turkey then the flight goes non-stop to Ercan/Geciticale. It's never advertised beforehand, I understand they just inform the passengers when they are near to the expected Turkish landing that they will go direct to Ercan. I personally long to be on a flight when this happens. Karen |

Thought this was common knowledge, very surprised that you ukturk were not aware this has happened fairly frequently during the last 2 years. I'm told that the airline when the situation arises will take the opportunity and pay the penalty (monetary), this works out cheaper than landing the aircraft and taken off again, I'm no expert but believe that the fuel useage during these ups and downs are very expensive!

hi guys gottheyips it might be common knowledge that it has happend in the last 2 years you are probabley surprised because you are quite new to the forum because everbody knows on this forum i have been living in turkey coming up to eight years, when i reguarley fly to cyprus i leave from dalaman and sometimes izmir with kthy and also when i go back to england i again get on a flight from dalaman with kthy to stansted what i posted was just the legal side mentioning the chicargo convention concerning civil aviation laws for the world which is backed by the united nations and also what i read in the media about the private plane you are right the fuel costs must be outstanding but not just that they pay a lot of money to land in turkey and taxi for a hour and this is what has a adverse effect on ticket prices, so can you imagine how cheap the tickets would be if kthy or any plane could fly directly to ercan thats why we all pray for this particular embargo to be lifted so we all could benifit, us for time and price and especially cyprus for the extra boost in tourism regards to all ukturk

Hi ukturk did not fully understand your response, I am not surprised at all, it is common knowledge that flights have come in direct albeit against the Chicago convention, and my newness to the forum is neither here nor there, actually I have been on the forum as delboy but changed to gottheyips as it seemed more apt ! so not quite a new boy as you suggest. I do agree you as will most on the forum that it would be wonderful if these restrictions could be lifted, the only losers would be the GCs and that would only be losing face. regards GTY

The only problem with the flight that goes direct, is that you may have someone coming to pick you up from the airport and of course they don't know you will be early, so you may have to hang around and wait, so there might not be any advantage. MC

hi hi gottheyipps i was suggesting maybe because you are new you did not know that i lived in turkey so you would be surprised that i did not know that because all the time ive flown to cyprus ive gone from turkey when i used to live in england i never experianced that or heard of anyone but that was over 8 years ago and like you said this has happend over the last two years or so i was thinking where you went dellboy i must say i prefer dellboy because it's from my fav programme only fool and horses and you are right only the greek cypriotwould be the losers because its down to them why these bloody restrictions are in place so if this embargo is lifted they would defo loose face mcstevie you are right it would be a problem if you are the friend who is picking their mate up at ercan looks on the net at departures from the airport are leaving from it will only show that they have left on time regards all ukturk

hı guys marik what do i expect from a mufc supporter!!!! no football terms on here this is not a football thread!!!!! i just could not resist it mary!!!!! lol pat - i dont think there is a way people could find this out, because they would not advertise it when you are coming from the u.k because in theroy this would be breaking the chıcargo convention laws, so i think its just a case of being lucky and you will find out once you are in the air and im like you i have never experianced or know of anyone who has been on a flight with kthy and fly to ercan without stopping in turkey and im hearing this for the first time on here regrads to all ukturk

morning all, in the past five years we have ony twice flown direct to Ercan without landing in mainland Turkey, both flights were night flights from Stansted leaving on a Thursday at about 2l.15 or 21.30 again we were not aware we had landed at Ercan we felt and probably looked a right pair of wallies, couldn"t understand why we were the only ones left on the plane! No longer a problem, we"re here to stay, and will only fly back to U.K. once or twice a year. Have a good day . Lesley x

We have flown direct to Ercan 3 or 4 times in last 6 years. It happens with the KTHY Thursday night flights when they have 2 flights leaving at approx 10.00 and 10.30 both going to Ercan via Antalya. If they can, they put all those only going to Antalya on one plane and all those for TRNC on the other. Then only one goes to Ercan (direct) must save them a lot as Antalya plane stops there. and does not fly on to Ercan. They don't tell you when you check in, although obviously some people are told they are being transferred to the other flight "for operational reasons". Some of the TCs know because one told me what was happening at Stansted. So if you are on a Thursday night flight and get moved to the other flight you may be going direct. Not much help to us as we get to Ercan 2 hours before our hire car arrives.
