Could be the best thread of the week.... So, who is your internet with and are they any good ? i'll start..... I've been with Bortec "E Motion" for 12 months - in that time you can count the amount of times the service has been down on one hand, speed always consistant, and if you ever have to ring them they are polite and helpful - Genuinely couldn't fault them. Previously with Internet Club, which was like a Laurel and Hardy film. Then briefly tried Extend - i've seen custard pie fights better organised...... Nick

Extend at work (not for much longer), Nightmare, off more than on. Nethouse at home for a year or so: Plus points: first ever problem today (saturday). Called and they said service guys were finished for the day, I offered a sweetener if they would come, guy turned up 1 hour later, replaced the box and refused the tip.. I insisted, i'm happy, he's happy. Never down (other than today). Only thing that I have bought in TRNC that has come down in price and gone up in speed (when 3G competition arrived they doubled my speed and halved my bill) Three cheers for Nethouse!!!

We are with Sunny Cyprus, No complaints always online sometimes down for about 10 minutes maybe 3 times in 5 months. Generally a good service and installed within 3 days of order.

we can only get dial up! extend was crap and kibris on line is slightly better, but still has its moments. everytime we have a thunder storm it blows my sons modem. he has a power breaker on the computer, so i guess it is the hone line which has been causing this? we are up to 5 modems last year, and 1 for this year so far!

wouldn't recommend Sunny Cyprus, down so many times and much slower than 3g. even though we are not getting the speeds that 3g claimed we would it is still better than SC

Firestarter, Surge protectors are now available that have sockets for the telephone connector as well as the normal 13amp sockets. Might be worth investigating... Here's an example: - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=98177 Keith.

I have broadband superonline with ADSL through my phone line. Never had a problem with power surges. It is really fast and costs 29tl pm on my phone bill. Sorry I know some have no electric yet alone phone lines, not rubbing in it..

Cyprus Today article claims that a 1.3 million USD scheme to provide a wireless internet service is set to become operational by the middle of March 2009. The last paragraph then claims the internet connection will be largely dial up at a cost of 1000TL. Well is it wireless or is it dial up. Confusing to say the least.

Nethouse for me. Brilliant. Good price, great service, can only think of one occasion when they were down, and it was back on within a couple of hours. Had a 4 month stint with Extend before going with Nethouse. As has been already said on this thread, Extend are a joke. Worse than useless.

Quarmby My understanding is that the system is primarily deigned to provide telephony connections. It is wireless but its main function will be to provide telephony to those areas where it is not cost effective to run copper wires too. These telephony connections will work just like any other normal telephone and thus can be used for dial up internet access. I believe the technology also allows for a 'pure' data service as well but it remains to be seen what services will actually be offered once it is up and running and at what cost. I am guessing that the 1000TL cost will be the cost of equipment on your house. Weather this cost includes the ability to have more than just a basic phone line remains to be seen.
