Perhaps you could explain what point you are trying to make. You seem to be stating what we all really know, then..........

Dear Dee re msg 5/6

Ok "Devil's Advocate"... I know you were probably researching your reasoned response to :

"you find me one Mosque in the RoC and I'll apologise" ..

But you seem to have overlooked the question re the UK / US recognition of "TRNC"..

You started the the thread. let's "run with it"... and we'll see who is "bright" and "distracted"

How about a link to ALL those UN resolutions on Cyprus?

What happens if a country decides to break one of the UN resolutions?

What punishments are the offered?

If Turkey allows, for example, (or actually, in reality) air travel to/from the TRNC, they are in breach of a UN resolution.

It's not the punishment a country gets from breaching a UN resolution that stops them from recognising the TRNC, but the wrath of the GC lobbyists.

If the TRNC did a university course on lobbying, perhaps more, or at least another one country would recongnise us.

Interesting reading if you can't sleep.

Re. msg. 4

Mm asked:

"2/ but only in Cyprus - Militarily - Why HAVEN'T the UK / US recognised "TRNC".. ?! "

Mark,

This is my serious answer and it is not meant to be flippant

1. Turkey does not want the recognition of TRNC because it will mean that she will have no say in the south i.e. missiles etc.

2. If UK/US recognize TRNC effectively it will be the end of the Cyprus Problem. This is very dangerous for them. Greek Cypriots will have nothing more to lose and they will agitate to get the "Sovereign" Bases back and the position of UK will be untenable. So UK/US do not really want Cyprus problem to be solved. The Annan Plan which they supported was not workable and could not last for more than a few years. So The Greek Cypriots would be in need of political support and hence the Bases would continue to be safe.

Elko would the TRNC allow the the british bases here.....the reason I posed this question is because I was chatting to a tc friend and he said it was nothing to do with TR as the USA?UK could just recognise TRNC immediately and to be honest it just got me thinking.

Well I kind of agree fire starter, but if the UK had acted way back there would have been no need for the intervention of Turkey and now the USA and UK need Turkey, plus the truth has outed as to what really happened here in the 60's....all I know is the tc's have been punished for 34 years too long and it is time the UK stood up to be counted..

Dear Dee, re msg 13

If you remember 2002/ 3 TCs were marching in the streets saying - "this country is ours"..

Certain TC contributors here will tell you ( quietly) that the declaration of "independence" was the very thing that condemned them to "isolation"...

The UK didn't intervene in 74 as it wasn't part of the "plan" .. the USA and TR had already agreed on how Cyprus would be carved up..

Elko...Turkey has nothing against the TRNC's recognition! As long as the Turkish armed forces are stationed there to stop any future Hellenic occupations (Greece).

Turkey will never pull troops out, not even for E.U. They know they will never get into the E.U, but attend talks in order to get foreign investments.....

Turkey gave away too much land to Greece during the Ataturk era.....and they will not make this mistake again. Giving to Greek cypriots is giving to Greece! They all support enosis....ALL OF THEM.

Lets not forget that the Turkish armed force are in NATO, so North Cyprus air bases would be very useful to the U.S one day, which is why they dont really care about the situation or the TRNC's recognition.

MMMMMMMM is correct about Turkey and U.S's agreement on how Cyprus would be carved up......after all, U.S arms were used in the war.....
