What would you rate as the best area to live in?

Catalkoy, Allsancak, Ozankoy, Lapta, Karakum, Esentepe?

And Why? Cheap properties? Nice people? Share your ideas!

Arapkoy is a little way out but mostly quiet with superb views..at first I thought too far out but now am quite happy here. Apart from the goats who are amusing at times and a bit of a nuisance at others. Most expats here are friendly and the ppl in the village are lovely, always smiling and friendly.

I love Esentepe.....just out of the town centre, about 5-10 mins walk. There is everything you need and its lovely and quiet......just the noise of crickets at night and sometimes toads during the day!

East has less traffic and less evening noise, west has marginally better restaurants and not such a good class of people. (waits for knives arrows etc)

Bahceli/Esentepe you have peace and quiet all the time you want it and then drive 30 minutes for the hustle, bustle shops and restaurants which you can leave behind you when you go home. You can't leave it behind if you live in the middle of it.

Tatlisu East of Girne , overlooking the sea , less rubbish , have our private gate leading down to a quaint little fishing marina , local shops always have a welcome for us, up to now shops/restaurants have never ripped us off in Tatlisu , no traffic , good road system to Ercan , nice quiet area . Still get our apartment cleaned for 50 ytl per day by a local . We have everything on our door step restaurants , take away , petrol station, bus service , beach , 5 min drive to a bank .purrrrrrrrrrrfect .

Definitely Lapta, has everything you need,( including nice people), sea and mountain views and close enough to Girne should you need to go there.

Alsancak is the place to be (I would say that I guess). Living here for me epitomises exactly what Turkish Cypriot village life is all about.

I'm with AJ. Alsancak is good for us, plenty of locals with a few brits thrown in for good measure. I'm looking forward to trying out my newly learnt Turkish in June (Dolmaci watch out).

Canvayuz

it depends on what you are looking for and you circumstances.

EG if you have kids and want them to go to Sunny Lane, GAU or Levent college living in Esentepe will give a horrific commute.

If you want to sample village life there are an abundance of villages out in the sticks.

What suits one does not necessarily suit another.

Catalkoy is the 'Tops', is open to all sorts and even has a 'Bucketts Gaff'

So there!

i can't imagine how you guys suffer the traffic living along the girne coastal road?

it drives me crazy on the odd occasion i go that way.

our village has fresh air all off the year and little humidity, where the coastal area has massive humidity in the summer.

you may think that living in a village has to be out in the sticks but we are only 10 minutes max from central girne and the same from lefkosa, we have the best of both worlds!

I am with fire starter that it is best to be in the mountains. Low humidity, cool in summer, no sand flies and few mossies, plus beautiful views.

I'd be happy just off the Girne ring road, close to every where. If only the builders would leave me alone
