UK Tvs work on Pal -I and in all of Cyprus Tvs are PAL-BG .. this means you will see a picture but get static hiss - if you bring the TV and watch local channels

Most TVs on sale in the UK aren't multi- std .

The good news: if you watch Satellite TV - you will be using the Scart / HDMI sockets - so the tuner on the TV is by-passed. So a local or UK TV will work ..

The problems:

1/ possible import duties

2/ if you feed a UK based sat TV around the house ( SKY?) all will be ok, but if you want to use a different sat system ( say Showtime/ Digiturk)- if you can't / won't have a 4.2m dish - then you have to be sure that the sat receiver can output an RF signal ( TV aerial frequency) that will be Pal-I.. if it only outputs a PAL-BG signal - you will be back to the static hiss problem on a UK TV

But .. if you use a scart lead on a non UK sat system, your UK tv will be fine.

All voltage is the same, but you'll NEED to fit a good surge protector

Hi F-S.. what if you have a brand new flat screen TV... If I was to buy one in "Public" in Nicosia and drive it over.. I could be liable to 30%..

What are the "rules" re moving one's household goods to live in "TRNC"?

We bought 4 tv's over with us in the container. 1 used, the other 3 new. We paid about 16 ytl per tv. We were told that this was similar to a tv license in the uk but was a one-off payment. All uk tv's worked fine with no adjustments needed. Would recommend a power surger though!
