Hi all,

I'm planning on moving to the TRNC with my wife and am due to do military service when I apply for my Kimlik (my dad is TRNC born cypriot).

Although I've been reading these forums for about 6 months, I joined today so I can take part in your discussions and ask about this one thing!

It seems to vary from year to year but Im trying to find out if anyone know how much military buyout costs for 2009. Any clues?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

Hi Dan

When I did mine about 5 years ago the one month option could be done in 2 sets of 15 days with a gap of upto 2 years between each of the two weeks. The advantage to this is that you can 'spread' your payments, paying half the 1500 when you do the first two weeks and the other half upto 2 years later when you do the second. I can not be certain that this option is still availble now but I believe it is and might be worth considering.

I've been a regular and reservist and would never knock anyone who doesn't want to be drafted. Why serve in a foreign army doing a job you may not believe in?

Hi rollin,

If I had to do it I would.

The country I live in don't do national service maybe that has something to do with it.

The answer is never leave it to the last minute you never know when you want to go back.

Give me the buy out money and I will go and do it.

Thanks.

David

The TRNC officiial conscription law, which can be found onine (search in google) states that:

£3000 to be paid, with no military service to be undertaken.

£1500 to be paid, for 28 days worth of service.

let me remind you that, if you have previously stayed in the TRNC for longer than 90 days in one year.....you cannot pay your way out, you have to do the full 18 months........
