Does anyone know if you can use co-ax cable instead of screened digital cable to receive a satellite signal.

To answer my own question, yes it does work, it wasn't a problem with the co-ax but the scart lead, now sorted. Thought I would leave the post up in case anyone else wanted this answered.

Dear Mr Wilson re 1 it may "work" for now.. only a cow boy would use TV coax cable in lieu of decent sat cable. 1/ the sigmal drop off will be much greater - more noticable in rain / winter 2/ you are probably shortening the life of the tuner in your receiver..the resistance of the cables are different. Better to buy the right stuff.

Mark, You said (...the resistance of the cables are different....) Oh no they're not! - both have a characteristic impedance of 75 ohms. Unless they're bent round a sharp corner or whacked with a hammer during installation! I quite agree that only a cowboy would use ordinary TV cable due to the excessive losses, plus the fact that F-connectors aren't such a good fit as on 'proper' cable. Got to keep you on your toes, you know! Keith.

You are right i am a cowboy, I was just trying to fit in here. The coax had already been pre wired into the house and i was trying to avoid pulling new cables in. Another job on the list. Thanks for the advice.
