Which is your favourite Indian Restaurant and why?

Mine is Oleander's. Lot's of fresh spices used in the cooking and good service too! They always offer a Brandy on the house at the end of the meal, many do not!

Lot's of people say the Happy Valley does good food if you can forget about the decor? I think the decor is most important, and obviously the Restaurant has to be nice and clean too!

I think Jashans is best, but i haven't been Happy Valley though..

By the way if you have been to Jashans, write a short review here and you could win a meal out for 2.....

I would have to say Rafters Ozankoy always greeted with a smile and Abbas always remembers your name plus the food is always top notch.

Keep it up Abbas.

Simply, NO. I slagged of Jashans but then ate at Orleanders and put a detailed review on the thread, which was no way biased because we were offered a free meal. If it had been bad, I would have said so.

I do hate it when people make comments without getting the facts correct!! :-(

Msg 8 I believe all the restuarant in N. Cyprus are run by Pakistanis - there are a a couple in S Cyprus run by Indian's but all the rest by Bengalis. In the UK over 98% of the 'Indian" restuarants are owned run by Bengalis. The the question as what is the difference between Indian and Pakistan food -well there are thousands of regions in Indian each having its own peculiar brand of cooking. Similarly in Pakistan there are various regions with its own flavours and dishes. For example birayani will be cooked differently say in Sindh province compared to NWFP. So I would say to give an accurate answer to your question I am afraid not possible except to say south Asain food as a whole has certain commonalities.

Hi Fred, thankyou for answering,

Pete, I'm not an expert on Indian/Pakistani food. What I do know is that

Nuket, the SOS project co ordinator, is organising the evening, along with

us as a committee. The whole evening with be as authentic as possible, she is from Pakistan..

Please join us everyone, and give us your feedback, as well as helping raising

money for the needy. All the proceeds are going to SOS project.

fred

my preference is sri lankan curry as they are usually made with no or very little oil.

some curries are just made with soo much oil, when it isn't needed to make a good curry.

Hi Fire starter. Is there a Sri Lankan curry house here? I would prefer to go to a place that doesn't do their cooking in so much oil.

Does anybody know if there is a ‘P’ in obnoxious? I have a feeling there is a good case to be made for it. After all there is certainly a ‘P’ in Pollock, Pompous and Pariah sPonger.

Msg 11 - where do you get that stat from (98%) they will probably be in the majority - but I would imagine e.g.in Bradford (West Yorks area ) and Leicester it would be lower - but you are correct - there are many regional differences - that makes experiencing different versions of spiced food enjoyable.

I have enjoyed very good meals in both Jashan's in Girne and recently at Al Shaheens recently opened near the Salamis Hotel on the Iskele / Magusa road - the nearest for us on the Karpas

We Visited Punja on friday, the food hot and plentiful.

Menu nothing special but ok.

lacking a little finesse, hot food served in cold metal dishes with nothing to keep it warm, I love chapaties but menu said served with nan bread !!

Tkaen a leaf out off riazes book and is serving minute portions of oninos and chutney, i did speak to them and explain not every one is happy to ask for more and he promised to address this.

Prices same as in manchester a tad expensive for here but market forses I suppose.

All in all a good meal and we would return.

Al Shaheen in Karakum is in my opinion the best. Great prices/portions and the service is always excellent.
