A couple of weeks back there was a story in Cyprus Today about corruption linked to the latest entrance exams for the Turkish Cypriot Police Service. An investigation alleges Turkish Cypriot candidates scored the highest marks and were offered places while Turkish settler candidates failed with bottom marks.

Inside sources have claimed the Turkish authorities manipulated the results to offer places to Turks at the expense of the superior Turkish Cypriot recruits. TC police officers and at least one politician has hit out at this, saying Turkey does not trust the TCs to run their own country hence they offered police jobs to second-rate settlers loyal to Ankara.

If true this is absolutely scandalous. It shows the contempt Turkey has for the Turkish Cypriots and how they have turned the north of Cyprus into a Turkish colony. It also shows how the Turkish Cypriots don't even have control or accountability over their own police force, which is controlled by the Turkish army.

Macha,

What you wrote above is only half true or shall we say half a lie

Nobody fiddled the examination results and nobody took any bribes, hence your allegation of corruption is not true.

The written examination and the results is above any suspicion and nobody has any complaints about it. The problem was with the oral examination and who was called for it. Some who had very high marks in the written exam were not called at all. At the end of the oral exam they recruited 100police candidates and 38 of these were outside the list of first 100 in the written exam.

If they were going to recruit 100 candidates it is normal that they would call more than 100 to the oral eam but what was not normal is that they did not call some from the 100 list and indeed I think one of the ones not called came 4th. Hence the High Administrative Court ordered those outside the 100 list not to resume training and their trainee pay has been stopped.

It is true that the police force is under

Turkish Cypriots care because it is their country. You clearly don't care about them or their future.

ctd.

the command of the TRNC army whose chief is a general of the Turkish Army. This is a contentious point and indeed TDP political party is campaigning to have the control of the police to be transfered to the ministry of the interior. It seems that there is a clear policy to have more policemen from the "settlers" who are at a disadvantage in education. Hence they were les successful in the written exams.

Thanks for confirming the story, Elko. What a shame for the Turkish Cypriots (but not you, apparently) that Turkey won't even allow them to run their own police force.

Remind me which TC politician said Turkey doesn't trust the Turkish Cypriots in their own country?

RE msg # 10: >>> Post edited for offensive remarks. <<<

===> The offensive remarks were made in message # 1. For example: "second-rate settlers loyal to Ankara". When one writes or allows insulting remarks like this etc on a Turkish Cypriot board - one should be ashamed of oneself.

Msg. 7

Firestarter,

First time I have ever heard this and I don't think it is true but I do know that there is some cooperation between the two police forces.
