There will be a second airport lounge opening in Stansted in May.

The older one is on gate 15.

The new lounge will be accessable by an airport train.

Before asking the board members I have tried to call the Airport but they haven't answered the telephone and Lounge Pass don't know.

As I've never been to Stansted so could any one advise which Airport Lounge would be closest to the departure gate, for Ercan flights?

Thanks for any info you may have.......

hi jan

from the duty free area you get the train usually, no idea about the new lounge.

at the departure gate you can still use a few shops, bar , coffe shop and toliets.

so nothing to worry about.

my advice would be check in at least 3 hrs prior to departure as security can take for ever.

we were still going throught security and they were calling our names for last call, luckily we made it but only just.

Thanks Fire starter

The new lounge opening in May advises you use the train.

I wondered if anyone on the board know the airport well enough to point us in the right direction in booking one or the other lounges.

Will take onboard the advise re getting thier 3 hrs early.

jan - you have to use the train at Stansted to get from the main departure lounge to all of the gates. Sorry - know nothing about a new lounge. As fire starter says, get there in plenty of time as security checks can be a bit long-winded, although it's not quite as bad as it used to be.

Hi jan,

Don't worry, when you check in they will tell you which departure lounge to go to. Then it will come up on the screen which gate you will need to go to. At the moment, you get to the gates on the little train. It sounds like they are building another lounge which you get to on the train. I go out on the 30th March for 2 weeks and I will enquire for you. I will post when I get back, so watch this space.

Do you mean the private lounge that you pay about £17 for? If so you can book online via the BAA web site. It's off the first stop on the train, so is fine for KTHY. Pegasus use a gate off the second stop, so the lounge is not very convenient for them. I don't know about a second lounge.

My last few trips I've got to the airport about 9.30 for a 12.45 departure. Every time I've been in the departure longe within 20 minutes of being dropped off, having a leisurly breakfast. It seems that time misses the end of the morning rush and the start of the afternoon.

If on Pegasus, go to the gate asap. (Don't wait for the screen message) There is a coffee lounge there that opens about an hour and a half before the flight departs, and you can relax on one of their leather safas with a drink, away from the rush. There's also a WH Smith nearby.

raybo - don't panic. You get on the train from the main lounge. You HAVE to do this - there is no other way to get to the gates. Having booked the VIP lounge, you get off the train at the first stop. The train will have announcements being made all the time, in several lounges. When you are ready to go to the gate, you get back on the train and go to the second stop, where the Pegasus departure gate is situated. As others have said, the VIP lounge is not very conveniently situated for the Pegasus gate, and I would concur - don't leave it until the last minute to get to the Pegasus gate. I hope this makes sense!! I assure you, it's not as tricky as it sounds. Having said that, I have never used the VIP lounge. By the way, the trains run every few minutes and are all fully automated.

Hope this helps.

So I still haven't go an answer until end of March ( thanks Butler).

I seem to be getting the view that it might not be worth the extra to get a lounge booked?

The Wicks .. You did say you haven't used the lounge. Is it because your waiting time is used up at check - in and travelling to the departure gate?

Ray I think we need to have a chat.

Thank you all for the advice again.

jan - no, that is not the reason. We usually check in, have a bite to eat, wander round the shops, etc. and then go to the gate. I should perhaps emphasise that the journey from the departure lounge to the gates takes only a few minutes on the train.
