Are there any bars, restaurants or hotels in the TRNC which are WI-FI hotspots where i can pick up a signal to use my laptop ?

You can normally get a signal in the town. I've picked signals up at various places.

karakum there are both 'free' hotspots and 'pay as you go' ones in the TRNC but coverage is variable.

The Paradise is a Free Wi-Fi hotspot all you got to do is to buy one Drink.

You can sit in the Jasmine Court Hotel foyer, and use theirs - you buy a password from reception, they charge 5TL for 240 minutes useage - you don't have to use it all in one go - you can keep going back until it's used up.

A little more expensive than Internet cafes - average cost 1TL per hour, but much nicer, smoke-free surroundings!

And the coffee is better as well.

They even have someone to help (free) if you're having difficulty connecting.

Just mention my name so that I can call in and collect my rake-off.

If in Karsiyaka, Club Simena is free. You get a password from reception and I always buy a drink or two but they don't ask you to.

my favourite in town is cafe called Sulken Simit , on right hand side on Karaoglanoglu road by Life Hotel, just before the roundabout with bistro tables outside. You can use internet free while enjoying a coffee and a pastry, its one of the cleanest places to eat in town. Much safer to use your own laptop than using an internet cafe, and easier than using a turkish computer and keyboard.

Anywhere else free? - some of the hotels no longer offer FREE access, some are quite costly.
