Hi. Does anyone have a mobile with wifi & do you have any problem picking up a connection when you're out & about? I'm considering buying a Vodafone Nokia 5800 or an Apple i phone but would be a bit peeved if it was blocked or similar out there. Thankyou.

Dear Kyreniagirl

re msg 1

1/ Your Nokia or Apple will work fine *if* you can find a bar / restaurant that allows you to connect to their wi-fi network..

2/ If you are hoping to use 3G ( internet via a mobile telephone provider) then the "fun" starts.. you COULD roam your UK network by using it in "TRNC" .. expensive

or

buy a local sim card - but as you have alluded.. is your mobile locked to a network?

The only way to know... put in a different UK sim card in any intended phone and see if it still works while in the UK.. if it works.. GREAT you could use a local sim in most countries you visit - including Cyprus

TIP: store your tel numbers on the memory of the phone or a memory card and BACK IT UP - using software that comes with the phone - then if you change sims or lose the phone....

second tip: store all numbers as +44 207 xxx xxxx / +90 533 xxxxxxxxx etc and no matter WHERE you are in the world you will connect... you DON'T pay int'l rates ! ;)

( cont)I meant you don't pay in'l rates when dialing with the prefix +44 / +90 if calling within the country UK / TR/ "TRNC" ..

Of course you would pay int'l rates if you dial the UK from "TRNC" or vice versa..

IF you stay in the Bogaz(i) area you can use a RoC sim and call home are cheaper ;)

kyreniagirl. I use an iphone. I've had no problems either in the trnc or the uk or anywhere else in the world. I'm not sure about outer mongolia though as I've never been there! )
