We've recently renewed our car insurance and were surprised to be told that the insurance had changed. In the past the insurance covered the car and any driver. We been told that now its named drivers on the policy. Cost of insurance has also risen. Anyone else heard of this. Karen

Hi Whitemad The cost depends on type of vehicle and cover required. We have an old saloon car so we only insured it for 3rd party. The insurance was about 200ytl. Karen

HI ALL, There are many good (and bad) insurers on the island, surely as in the UK you shop around and get the cover you require (not always the cheapest quote) I have a very personal interest in this one as I had a very very bad experience insurance wise here, maybe one day I will blog it, but as litigation is still in progress I cannot discuss at present, however I found that I personally can put my trust in two companies (cutting out middlemen) It is imperative that you sit down with the insurer and tell exactly what cover you require, EG. in the event of a bump do you get a courtesy car, is the full value of the car covered or is there a limit to their liability, etc etc believe me please there are insurance companies out there with big fancy bill boards but with no credibility whatsoever, when I do eventually reveal all my revelations will make your hackles rise

Hi Gang As we're bringing our car over, can anyone tell us if in the firt twelve months before we register it in the TRNC, whether we need to insure our car in England and also if we need British Road Tax or can we do this with a British registered car in the TRNC as obviously it would be much cheaper to do it locally. Thanks again

Hi Milou you can use your car for the first 12 months and you would be advised to insure and tax it in the TRNC not sure that uk insurance would cover you unless you specifically tell them where you are going as it is outwith the EC, better to check with them first, and I dont think road tax is valid here, but may be wrong
