Bad damp problem in villa

Can anyone recommend someone who could give me advice on a bad damp problem I have in my villa. Every year it has been patched up by developer but keeps coming back. Obviously more to it than just poor plaster etc. Seems to be happening on the pillars under balconies. Any info much appreciated.

hi park view. i would advise you to go to ÖGELER i think thats the spelling. They have a shop in lefkosa just past Hidden Garden on the other side of the main road. They speak english and do a lot of products for damp and insulation. İ think they will be able to help you, explain your problem to them.

Parkview, you need a surveyor or good builder to look at your property and find the source of the problem. Patching it up every year will not cure the problem.



Surely someone on here knows a surveyor or a good English speaking builder.



Hope you can get it sorted out soon.

As I write the 'Mr Fixit' in Cyprus Today I get many queries about damp. Unfortunately most of the solutions offered are usually cosmetic and carried out by people who do not understand the problem. There is a serious need to cure the underlying source of the damp. The proceedure is 1/. Stop the damp. 2/.Dry out the area 3/. Make good. This will take some time. It is important to cure the problem right from the start as if damp penetrates through to the structure of the concrete you will have serious costs in the future. Damp Consultants Ltd are the only contractors we know and use who do injection correctly. That may be necessary but painting/sealing over the damp is rather like rearranging the deck-chairs in the Titanic and I am afraid that is what we see done on most jobs we are called in to remedy. Damp Consultants (Mehmet) put an injection damp proof course in my Villa 3 years ago. The walls have been absolutely perfect ever since. It wasn't cheap but it did fix the problem and it was very bad. Call Mehmet on 0533 8641109; he speaks perfect English and he's the only honest builder I have met in Cyprus. He has done lots of work for me over the past 3 years including a swimming pool.

he removes the damp and cuts back to the rebar of house use bitchumen and then plasters and seals
