it was quite reasonable due to the quality of the course and hospitality in the club house

People who say its expensive or slag off the course dont really know what they are talking about when it comes to golf courses, simple as that and it is a good course

mess 8 - why do you say that ? - the golf course is painfully quiet, if they dropped their prices, who know more golfers would visit/join, they mat then use the bar/restaurant and who knows join the gym...

With no direct flights, flight costs and only 1 golf course, they are unlikely to be able to compete with Brits nipping over to Spain on a 30 quid flight and have 5 or 6 courses within easy reach.

The TRNC is a "budget" destination - it's no point deluding ourselves.

The course is empty, the bar is empty, the restaurant is empty, the pro shop is ridiculously expensive, it`s losing money hand over fist, it is not a golf club but rather a country club with a golf course attached, apart from that it`s brilliant!

Messages 9, 10 & 11 Re: Costs, are you a regular player in the Med? If you were you would know that the average price for a round of golf is 60 to 150 Euros. Try playing at the ROC Aphrodite Hills, it will cost you 133 Euros.

On Friday last week there were 120 rounds of golf played at Korineum, there are currently 3 groups on packages and they are from Scandinavia to Estonia.

50 apartments are being build to accommodate package holiday groups for next season so numbers are expected to double.

As far as pouring money into a black hole is concerned, as long as its not your money why are you worried? There is a long term business plan for Korineum and they are on plan.

Come and enjoy the premier golf resort in Cyprus, the owners plan to make it the best in the Mediterranean.

Coffer,

That is great news. People who say it is far to expensive really do not know the cost of keeping up a golf course, water bills alone!!

I live in the Middle East with one golf course in the country Cost per round about GBP 140. Years membership about GBP 5,000. Down the road in Dubai no difference if not more.

In reference N Cyprus it seems to be popular if your reports are true. Once again really people on this board knocking things for no reason

mess 12 - Well said Coffer ! - only prob is that this place isn't on a par with other places - it's far too rough round the edges and shabby to charge Spanish prices.

I do hope it works out for the owners, cos if it fails there is feck all over the east side as it is.

As to the restaurant/bar, far far too expensive

perhaps the management should have a re-think ?

Re Message 14: The food and drink prices are on a par (excuse the pun) with any good Hotel/Restaurant in the TRNC, the views are stunning and worth price in my view. In fact the price of a bar meal is around 12TL, not expensive, beer is 5TL.

As far as being off the fairway is concerned, its not called 'the rough' for no reason! I've played in Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the USA. I experienced much rougher conditions on many of these courses, the moral is keep it straight! But seriously, please bear in mind that Korineum is 24 months old. I have been a member since day one and can see the improvements being made daily. It is the best golf resort in Cyprus and better than a high percentage of courses in the Med, even at this early stage of its development.

mess 15 - sorry Coffer, you missed my point - my comments related to the TRNC as a whole not the Golf Course, which is excellent.

I admire your loyalty to the place - if you are a v keen golfer it is worth paying the prices - for a "not really bothered either way" type of golfer like me and the Mongster, the cost is prohibitive.

Why not scrap the green fees for 3 months to see what interest they get then ? - surely get more folk through the door, many of whom would use the bar/restaurant and pro shop....

Yes, and while we are at it, why not have all of the bars and restaurants offer food or drink free for 3 months as well..... Really, please.......... Some people will prefer to eat in the Dragon and some will prefer Beyti, either because of personal tastes or personal income. If people would like a cheap round of golf then there is always CMC. You get what you pay for.

Message 12 Coffer I have to agree with you that as courses go in Europe Korenium is among the tops and is no more expensive than most comparable courses and indeed cheaper than most on say the Algarve, there will always be those who choose to see the negatives (sorry nick )

We were there in the restaurant for Valentines evening as well and it was superb

Lets hear it for the club and course long may it thrive

corbytown,

CMC is short for Cyprus Mining Company - now defunct, I believe - they used to mine Copper here, and the railway was mainly used by them.

I think that the CMC course was a part of their social and sports amenities, I don't know who administers it now, but no doubt someone will come up with chapter and verse!

Someone mentioned that they don't have 'Greens' - they have 'Browns' - that might tell you something...

And that's ALL I know!

Keith.

Re message 20; A round will cost 52 euro if you walk in off the street, with a member its 46 euro. Buggy's are 19.5 euro, with a member 15 euro. However, if you are looking for a round between June and Sept the prices are significantly lower. I'd have to confirm but roughly 35 euros a round and 12 euros for a buggy, which you will need in the summer!

If you want to play with a member, post on this board before you arrive. There are a number of groups playing most days who will be happy for you to join them, have fun!

coffer,

Well said on posts 12 & 15, we the members have a great course and club, and like many others find the costs reasonable but more importantly WORTH EVERY PENNY. Nobody is denying it is a lot of money to part with however like you I have played in a lot of countries and found the course and costs comparable and in most cases better. Two or three rounds a week beats the daylights out of pubbing, smoking, or sitting on my ass doing nothing but moan.

LUV IT!!!!!

We've just paid 90 euros in the Algarve which has increased from 60euros 2 years ago. I think the Esentepe course is a great advert for golf, and a very good place to eat.

REF CMC mess 21; I feel sure that if CMC had a wealthy sugar daddy they too would have greens as opposed to browns. The club is not run by a company but by it`s members who do a fine job with little money.

By the way it is on the most beautiful bay in Cyprus!

yes its a great course, just wished they prices were a bit Monger friendly.

Garry Monger once said "the only people who make money from a golf course are the third owners" (he probably stole it out of a book, cos he ain't that clever).

We have just returned from TRNC and played the course several times durng our stay.

We found the course in good condition following the rains and the place reasonably busy due to an influx of Scandinavian tourists.

The bar and restaurant were very quiet which resulted in lack of atmosphere but we could not fault the staff.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course which has some spectacular scenery and highly reccomend a visit.

If you have never been then it is well worth the visit. I wear the tee shirt so to speak, proud to promote and almost privilaged to say i am part of, it did cost a few bob mind.

Magnificent location and very well constructed. Who ever chose the location definately found the right spot.

Well actually I have it on good authority that the course is not well designed. It looks lovely but the fairways are on on the wrong camber i.e. your balls bounce into the ravines fron good fairway shots. I can put you in contact with the golf course designer that told me this - after I had lost approx. 20 balls.

Well - thats my excue anyway ))

I think having to putt on the 5th, 8th and 17th are three of the hardest greens anywhere.

So that's why I like to "chip in" when I can.

However, with the new Head Greensman, the course has improved immeasurably.

Could I just have one simple request? Remove the bloody tree by the tee on the third! It must be dead by now, I've hit it so many times, even when I tee up on the right.

I know some of you golfers have already seen the "hardest" hole in the world, but here it is again.

Having played the course a number of times now I would comment that if you are a holiday golfer playing the course once or twice then the course is extremely tough (but nevertheless enjoyable), but once you have played it a few times and become familiar with the layout it becomes much more friendly. Perfect example is club selection from the 14th Tee- Driver? 3 Wood? Recue? 4 iron? The only way to find out is trial and error.

Noticed they have relocated one or two of the T boxes to make it slightly friendlier.

Have just returned from TRNC having played 2 rounds on Korineum GC. I must say that the course has come on in leaps & bounds from 18 mths ago. Greens are 1st class as are fairways. Also, it is nice to see rough replacing the stoney areas in a lot of places.

On the whole a very enjoyable game of golf.

With regard price I felt £47 for what is on offer was not over the top. Even cheaper from 1/6/09, but hotter.
