Been going into the HSBC lately and must say that they have seemed to sorted out the problem with the queues. I was there this morning and didnt have to wait at all. I commented to the cashier and she told me that the manager had complaints previously and decided to get extra staff in. Its worked I was in and out in 10 mins.

Believe when I see it. Banks thrive on long queses, surprised they dont open a cafe whilst you wait!

They might have sorted out their cashiers but only 1 out of 3 of their ATM cash points were working today which caused a long queue

All banks have occasional problems with ATM's. Have never had probs either at branch or at Dome.

As for queues, check out the "security man" he has gone replaced by a young lady who actually helps people.

Was in one day and she checked each person who was sat down with a ticket and by time she was finished there were only a couple of people left. She directed them to the right place for help and in a lot of cases to the ATM. Yes, people were sat waiting for a cashier instead of using ATM to get 20tl.

Still got rubbish rates but for us HSBC is serving a useful purpose for transfering cash for free amongst other things.

I say, well done HSBC for listening.

I also found no queues in Turkiye Is Bank whereas before they were horrendous. I think it is less to do with the Banks' efficiency & more to do with the fact that a great number of Turkish people have left the island.

I think the lack of people in HSBC is because of their very low interest rates and that are lot of the poeple are taking their money and moving on. At least that is what the manageresss told me. She was even kind enough to give me some information on other banks and her opinions. (I stress they were her opinions not HSBC's opinions)

Without doubt the reason there are no more queues is because most of their customers have moved to other banks.

I would appreciate your clarifying the above - I have a friend who needs to pay off monthly their HSBC Mastercard and HSBC Current Account balances on their UK accounts, but who is living and working in TRNC - being paid Lira - and was told when they visited HSBC, Girne, that to transfer money to UK would incur huge costs every time.......I am not sure they understood clearly what they were being told, so would you enlighten me so I may pass the information on? Thanks.

Dear MsGarnet

get yourself a HSBA ac in the uk as well as NC....ensure both are set as internet accounts....you can then transfer money either way for about £7 -£15 gb ....money is in the transferred account within about 2 hours...sometimes 1 hour...any further advice, email me via stua@fsmail.net ( subject: NC )

The HSBC is a proper bank and that is why its rates have been lowered. If they are not lending money and earning interest on it they cannot take money and give high interest rates. Those banks which are offering higher rates are the ones to be careful of. Alot of them went under the last time and people didnt get their money back.

Ive worked too hard to take that risk

God this comes up every few months, HSBC Bank plc is a worldwide organisation which includes HSBC Northern Cyprus, This came about after HSBC bought Demirbank several years ago. HSBC does not franchise anywhere in the world despite what people keep saying here.

The guarantees are subject to the individual country rules and are not the same as the UK, but it is the same bank.

HSBC here in TRNC is actually part of HSBC (Turkey)AS.

They are part of world wide HSBC group.

MsGarnet, not sure about reverse transfers, all our money comes this way via HSBC International in Jersey and HSBC in UK. I manage all 3 of the accounts on line but as a Premier customer incur no charges. Premier is over 100,000tl here and £60,000 with International.
