Crossing from Larnaca

Just a quick one and i am sure this will of been asked numerous times. My parents are flying into Larnaca 10pm inthe evening. I will meet them and then in theory drive over to the North. They are hiring a car and will need insurance etc. Are the places selling insurance open at night including the boarder crossing?

You cannot normally buy the insurance at the crossing point/s much after 5.00 pm. Best to have it arranged, and the document in the car when you collect it at the airport. Ask the rental company to arrange it for you - those that allow their cars to cross over into the TRNC will do that small favor FOC. Beware! Many car-hire/rental outfits will NOT allow you to take their cars over into the TRNC. If you take it anyway, and have an accident, could prove mighty expensive.

Thanks for the info, i travel to the north with a s cyprus car 6 or 7 times a year with to date no problems touch wood!! I dont however pass so late which may be a problem

Was told by a friend who went to cross this week, the 3 insurance booths all close at 2.30 pm .. They were there after this time & could not cross ..

We got insurance at around 10 pm in October although we knew we were taking a risk. Maybe they've changed arrangements since then though. Opting for collection and NC car hire from now on (with Ozgur) though as I worry too much about the 3rd party insurance situation. .

Yes, they stay open longer in the summer season. But at this time of year it is usually late afternoon they close. If busy they stay open a bit longer, especially at weekends when the GCs come over to frequent the casinos.
