Or maybe the difference between your experience and his is more down to you being considerably less 'arab' than him and also not a naturlised cypriot citizen ?

Dear ErolZ, re msg 4

I have had two experiences of two UK nationals who needed urgent treatment and were treated very well at this hospital.

Another someone I know - who has suffered from depression even "attacked" two members of staff, and the hospital could well have pushed charges.

So I'd say the staff there were, largely, pretty tolerant.

Perhaps a "TRNC" resident who posts here could tell us about the std of care he received when in a hospital in "north" Nicosia..

Many TCs CHOOSE to be treated south of the green line..

Perhaps I should post about the Iranian National who alleges his was repeatedly beaten up by TC "police"... but *I* think it's better to wait until an investigation ..

Otherwise it might just look - well - "petty"...

Erolz, what is your point? You have written several posts against labeling and stereotyping. And now what? Are you saying it is fairly typical for GCs or just for their medical personnel?

I found the news article quite shocking. If I had seen in on the bbc website about a biritsh hospital I would have posted it as well. I am not saying anything about what this means for health care in the south in general or GC in general. Is the Cyprus Mail saying this is typical for GC ? Or their medical personnel ?

No! That's why i asked YOUR opinion.

The news (provided they are true) are ideed shocking. But you know, every day you can find something not less shocking on ethnic, sexual, age and other discriminations on the bbc or elsewhere. If you think this story is more than just news they would deserve some comments.

our tc friends brother was recently taken ill, he went to the hospital in lefkosa who couldn't operate for a week and asked for a fortune. his family took him south and was treated privatley for a reasonable sum the same day.

they were very happy, and no he doesn't speak greek!

hubby has been to lefkosa hospital a&e a few times always had good treatment and for free.

turkish brother in law had back operation at famagusta, then needed another and because he couldn't pay they just left him suffering, until we paid for the next op.

he is now back in the uk, waiting for specialist treatment to sort out the mess they have made.

so i think it is just luck on what treatment you get from where ever.

What is even more worring is that doctors who have takn a oath can behave like this with a patient whatever the provocation (if there is one). It is likely that these doctors may be registered with the GMC in the UK and I am sure their behaviour will not be looked on lightly- although I am sure their practice in Cyprus is unlikely to be effected but then an EU human rights angle may be brought in by some enterprising lawyer. Just a thought (Coachi you can come in now with your comments- so far you have been predictable!)
