Hi Ataturk.. Your thread re had GCs ever ruled Cyprus got derailed, I just hope this one will still on course. Ataturk Q: "When have the greeks cypriots ever ruled the island of Cyprus. Answers on a postage stamp please." Ataturk A: "The answer is never. They have never ruled the island at all." http://encarta.msn.co.uk/encyclopedia_761578820_7/Cyprus.html " King Evagoras I, ruler of the Cypriot city of Salamis, made the first recorded attempt to unify the city-states of Cyprus. In 391 BC Evagoras, with the aid of Athens, led a successful revolt against Persia and temporarily made himself master of the island." Hmmm... not that has much importance in the scheme of things.. as no doubt you'll agree !

mmmmmm, the classical people, the ones you refer to, are known as the ancient greeks and they lived in a land divided into separate states, just like cyprus is today: those who now inhabit the unitary country of greece are the modern greeks to clear up any remaining confusion: ancient greece was the birthplace of democracy several thousand of years ago, modern greece was a dictatorship and tried to take over cyprus 35 years ago

Just a reminder.. the thread was "had GCs ever ruled Cyprus? " Ataturk has said *never*. No Gold star for trying to ( twice) rewrite historical fact. To other posters, thank you for your interesting historical "facts" - when I can understand their relevance - I'll revert.. ;)

Cylad I know loads of dodgy Greeks, there's Nick the Greek, Stavros all up to no good living in London came here around 1974 now ain't that a coincidence. Never mind when we all lose our property we could do an exchange and they can leave my country and come home. Seems fair don't you think Pikey.........
