WHAT a BIG hypocrite!!! when asked about joining the EU & the Cyprus problem regarding the settlers he had the audacity to say there are NO settlers from Anatolia on the north of Cyprus... he was also asked about the turkish troops removel.. well at least he admitted there are over 40.0000 of them. The kurds he said have no problems being in Turkey & are respected.. yeah right... And the audacity to say Turkey follow the UNs rulings turkey do not beleive in the occupation of any country...yeah right!

Yes, and it is a joke that the Ministry of Information or the RoC fails to mention the deployment of UN peacekeepers in 1964 - in fact it only talks about the 1974 intervention. So are we believe that pre-'74 it was all brotherly love etc with the TC's being 18% of the population and not having to live on only 3% of the land? that the 1619 missing persons are GCs only? or that there was no Tashkent massacre? http://www.moi.gov.cy/moi/pio/pio.nsf/a_problem_en/a_problem_en?OpenDocument Why is it then that I have a copy of the Cyprus Main dated Sept. '69 with a small article about the new RoC ambassador presenting credentials to the USSR FM and a statement by the FM about abiding by UN resolutions regarding the Cyprus Problem?

Hi there aweverard ! "interesting" that you don't comment on "Juliet's" post - but tell us of a 40 year old "stroke" by the RoC !! I haven't seen the interview yet.. but if what "Juliet" has posted is true .... I seem to remember "Liealtopoulos" tried a similar denial technique and rightly got pilloried and was largely totally untrusted by foreign diplomats, thereafter. REALLY hope this is some sort of misunderstanding../ poor translation.

Just watched an interview wuth Abdulla Gul (are there 2 interviews, or has Juliet got confused with names?) The thrust of the interview was about Turkey joining the EU. One of the difficulties mentioned was "the Cyprus question" He pointed out that the Annan plan had been supported by the UN, the EU and TC, and it was only the "No" vote by the GCs that prevented its operation. The figure of 40,000 troops was used by the interviewer, but not disputed by Gul. He pointed out that had Annan gone through, virtually all troops would have gone by now. He did say there was no immigration from Anatolia towards Cyprus. However in the context of the question that had been asked, he was talking in the present tense. I'll keep Euronews on in the background while I'm at home, jus in case there is an interview with Erdogan Ian

re msg 1 / 9 Juliet Oh Dear.."Juliet".. The interview I can find is with *Mr Gul* - the ex FM - the PRESIDENT.. http://www.euronews.net/2009/03/30/abdullah-gul-we-will-fight-pkk-to-the-death/ The part re CY is in the last third of the interview. He CORRECTLY points out that there wouldn't BE 40K troops on the island if the GCs had voted YES to Annan, but he DOES say there isn't immigration from Anatolia to Cyprus.. may be right NOW there isn't... "Juliet" - I reckon the flow of "settlers" was slowed and many are sent back - so he was technically not fibbing by talking in the PRESENT.. He is a Politician ! ;) He was being "foxy".. as he was when discussing TR's relations with Hamas - if you read the WHOLE interview you'll hear him complain about Israel not complying with UN resolutions.. NOW -if I'd been the interviewer I'd have come back at him about respecting resolutions during the CY part of the interview..;)

The insults to people on this board only goes to prove that some of you have been educated to a low standard and cannot take criticism. There are right and wrong and some people DO learn from their mistakes but - I'm afraid some DO NOT and just resort to insults. Grow up. PATHETIC Sorry because the offending message was deleted I have had to delete your cut and paste of the same. AJ

MM My point being that what is sauce for goose... The RoC PIO glosses over (fails to mention) the trauma suffered by the TCs 63-74 and only focuses on the trauma suffered by the GCs in 74. It would be like the UK govt not talking about Cromwell and Ireland or the Highland clearances as a part of UK history. DT The 3% is a number I have seen on many of the Cyprus forums when talking about 63-74, I am sure that someone on the Cyprus Forum would have the info to hand.

juliet Due to your misunderstanding's of all things Cyprus, I would like to clarify my last post. My use of the word 'excellent' was referring to your statement: 'This interview is causing ruptions here, didnt go down to well with international people in high places ie, the EU......' And not to the assumption that you had gotten your facts right this time. I hope you understand. Take care AJ

re msg 31 "My point being that what is sauce for goose..." STILL no comment on the fact Mr Gul was "trying it on" re Cyprus "settlers" and Hamas?...the TR local elections are over.. I thought he might be a little more plausible to an international audience.

Hi MM, Not sure what you mean about re Cyprus settler and Hamas? did not see the interview as don't have Euronews in Beijing! My point about sauce for the goose, if it is OK for the RoC PIO to fail to mention anything that happened from 63 to 74 then it i OK for Gul to say there are no settlers from TR. Juliets outrage at Guls hypocrisy is not matched when it come to the lie of omission of the RoC PIO. If the GCs want the TCs to trust them then they will have to stop glossing over the history 63-74 - see the debate about changing the history books in the south.

Juliet, I assume you mean ructions... One entry found. Main Entry: ruc·tion Pronunciation: \ˈrək-shən\ Function: noun Etymology: perhaps by shortening & alteration from insurrection Date: circa 1825 1 : a noisy fight 2 : disturbance , uproar You said "didnt(sic) go down to(sic) well with international people in high places ie(sic), the EU......' Would these people in the EU be the same ones that promised the TC's that they would be rewarded for voting YES in 2004?

Hi Awe, re msg 55 Hope you are well.. As you are in Beijing and others might not have seen THAT's why I posted the url link. !! But if you missed it .. http://www.euronews.net/2009/03/30/abdullah-gul-we-will-fight-pkk-to-the-death/ I don't know if Euronews is "blocked" from where you are.. but perhaps you'll be able to read it soon These "oversights" re historical ommissions do seem to be a problem re the Cyprus problem....

Juliet, msg 56, I expect the GCs can wean the TCs away from Turkey but don't believe that if they deny the trauma suffer by TCs in 63-74 that they will be successful, 12,000 or so cross for work and 2,000 or live in the RoC - I assume that these speak English as do many in the TRNC so the question should be why have so few taken advantage of the benefits offered in the RoC? Perhaps they see the hypocrisy of the RoC and so don't trust the GCs? MM, msg 58, No Euronews is not blocked in China and I did look at the link - but not read it in full (had to watch some grass grow or something ) and you are right the omissions are a big part of the problem, but if it were a few hot heads not the official history it could be excused.
