Girne, Esentepe & Tatlisu Belediyere have decided to increase their charges for water. All water charges will go up by 150% from the next bill reading.

The reason for these increases is due to the expected demand from hotels.

The three local Municipalities have been approached by the Hotels Union demanding continuous water supply for all businesses connected with tourism.

The Union leader pointed out that this year, tourist numbers will be much higher than previous years. Many hotels will be full during July and August.

He continued, if visitors have little or no water, they will not return. We must take advantage of the high value of the Euro, and show what the TRNC can offer in terms of tourism.

Korineum Golf Club, in Esentepe, which has it's own desalination plant, is building 50 apartments in anticipation of golf tourism.

All hotels and restaurants in these areas will have small notices in English, Russian and Swahili advising guests how to save water.
