How many people noticed the reference to Joe DiMaggio in the Eleanor Rigby lyrics? He married Marilyn Monroe of course, and although they were divorced at the time of her death, he not only arranged her funeral, he had half a dozen red roses delivered 3 times a week to her crypt for 20 years. I digress...

keith - thought I'd probably missed something in all the years I've listened to that song, so have just googled the lyrics. Now, it might well be me being thick, but I can find no reference to Joe DiMaggio. Please put me out of my misery. With thanks Jean

The-Wicks, You are of course, dead right! This is why I should be in a home for the elderly confused - what's that you say? TRNC? - That'll do nicely... I checked, and it turns out I was thinking of verse seven of - wait for it.... Mrs Robinson, by Simon and Garfunkel Talk about going away from the point! Sorry, Keith.

Best Beatles songs are very difficult to choose, especially considering the changes they went through in such a short time! However...one of my favourites, from Beatles For Sale (which had fewer Lennon & McCartney songs on than any other btw!) was...Eight Days A Week. Any body ever seen Concert For George DVD...now he wrote one or two "good tunes" dinnee?

George was probably the most underated Beatle out of all of them. He did write some good uns didn't he !!. " My Guitar " in my opinion is one of their best songs, and for a change, not sung by Lennon or Macartney. Still and always will be the most popular group on the planet .

Keith, message 15. Well, I did wonder whether it was "Mrs Robinson" since that's the only song I could think of with said reference. I do, of course, understand about your mental state - you're leaning against an open door here!!! I think the TRNC is probably a good choice for us elderly and confused folk - reading some of the stuff on here I'm beginning to think I'm one of the saner members!! Kind regards J

I loved The Beatles and always tried to find 7/6d to buy the singles. (The LPs were a bit out of my reach as a lad.) But if I had to pick a favourite now, I think I'd pick the more obscure 'In my Life' for its melancholy lyrics and haunting tune. 'Norwegian Wood' is another great one. It's one of Lennon's biographical songs - although he lied about sleeping in the bath because Cynthia would have been upset to know he slept with the girl. I've picked two Lennon songs. I know Harrison was talented - perhaps underrated in the company of the two brilliant songwriters around him - but who was the greatest Beatle in your opinion?
