I have just recently bought a new panasonic tv and a surround sound package, had it all plugged in with a sat box, video recorder and dvd player. I am now finding that the surround sound does not work via the tv on all channels, on ringing the company I was informed that surround sound only works on certain channels. Anyone know if this is correct? If it is incorrect, does anyone know who I can get to come to my house and connect the whole system up properly? Thanks

Hi Scoobydo After speaking to my surround sound guru. i.e the other half, I have been told that the company told you correctly, it depends if they transmit the sound using a minimum of 5.1 or just stereo. However, depending on which panosonic you bought, you can go into the settings and set it up so that it gives the impression of surround sound. You may want to check your instruction booklet to see if you can do that on yours.

That is correct. Producing surround sound is a complicated business, so you'll mainly find it on feature films, dramas and other big budget programming. Think of it as High Definition TV for the ears!

To be fair to you scoobydoo, it doesn't seem to me that the shop went to great lengths to explain to you how much programming you'd get in surround. On the plus side, any films you play on DVD or Blu-ray will be in surround and it goes a very long way to giving you a full 'home cinema' experience.
