We went to Lefkosa this am to get out residency for first time. Took advise from friends got there just after 7.30. Chap came out with morning tickets just after 8.30 mad rush from everyone who had arrived. You need to be standing by door to office and be ready to be a bit pushy!!! nearly got trampled as no queues except for us British who started queuing but soon realised that we wouldn't get a ticket unless we did what everyone else did.

Finished by 9.30

We're happy

hi lainie

it is not as bad as first seems there are benches to sit on by the door these were full when we arrived so we stood nearby, but some locals just walked up and stood in the doorway.so we moved nearer to the door ready for the man with the tickets when he emerged from the office.everyone moves to the door when he come out but we all got tickets for the morning session.it might be an idea to take someone with you so they could get the ticket for you.when you have your ticket you wait to be called into the office to complete the paperwork

all staff spoke english.if you cannot get anyone to go with you my wife said she would go with you.

Dear Menace/John,

did you actually get the residency in one hour?

Thank you for your reassuring message, I am going tomorrow!

Did you go very early?

Thanks in advance & Happy Easter!

Hi NatAless,no will have to go to Lefkosa to collect residency. The hour was going to Girne police station, getting the slip for the blood tests, getting them done in the medical lab round the corner and then going back to the police station and doing the paperwork and giving them all the stuff they need. Two of the most helpfull policemen I have come across anywhere.

We got to Lefkosa at 7.30 am and on way home at 9.30 am. The offices didn't open til 8.30 so very quick once tickets had been dished out.

We went to Lefkosa on Friday. Admittedly we didn't get there until 9.30 am and got our ticket. 5 hours later we were out. They close for lunch at 12 to 1.30 pm which gets extended to 2 pm so take that into account. I don't know what has happened this year as the last 2 years we have just walked in straight away with no queuing.

Do you really have to get their so early to get a ticket. Like Corinne, I have just gone at about 9 ish for the last 2 years and got it ok. Do you have to go yourself or can you get someone to go for you, as I have a problem with my back and leg now, and literally cannot stand for more than about 10 minutes, so will have a real problem. Have to pick it up in a couple of weeks, so cannot see myself better by then.

got there today at 7.30, tickets dished out at 8.15 - by then there were about 20 or more in 'queue' - I use the term jokingly...

Out of the building by 9.00

175 Lira +7Lira stamp

There are seats in the corridor for while you are waiting

I saw one chap with 2 passports, so assume that someone can do it for you if required

Phew! It is too hot to be running around town doing this residency malarkey! Have it all done though so feeling very relieved! It really was quite easy in the end... if you have everything sorted and to hand when you go!

Will bring my book when I go to Lefkoşa to pick it up, always a good way to pass the time when bored in a queue! Thanks for all the advice and looking forward to my first residency!

I went to renew Resedency at Lefkosia today. Absolute chaos, we arrived at 1pm early enough for the afternoon session. Ticket man came along at 1.20pm looked at us all then went away outside.

He came back 5mins later, he had a list of names(people who hadn't made it to the counter before lunch). I had to ask several times for a ticket, eventually getting No. 18.

There was only 2 of us Brits there, I was speaking to a Gentleman who had been there at 12 o'clock, he went in to the office but was refused attention even though there wasn't any one waiting. He was told to come back afternoon. So he hung around and we waited. Staff arrived back at 1.55 and started work just after 2pm. We got seen last, came out at 3.50. There is no organisation atall. just lots bodies walking up and down doing sweet fanny adams. If there had been a problem with anyone"s paper work it isn"t detected until you have wasted best part of half a day before you are told. Get your act together TRNC

Just a thought but the BRS now has an ex MP as it`s vice chairman, how about getting Stephen Day on the case?

Apparently he is going to sort out the TRNC government for the betterment of us Brits!

He will have a mountain to climb with all the civil servants, thats for sure. But who can blame them for milking the system, they have no leadership, we are the mugs paying for the 3 hour coffee breaks and complacent attitudes.

i don't think neither he or the brs have a hope in hell.

the only way we can get change here is with the help of the cypriot people.

Hi sorry to go off track here but when you go to collect your residency (first time) in Lefkoşa, do you need to bring anything else with you apart from the 6.60YTL amount of stamps and your passport?

Thanks

PS Regarding the police staff at Girne police station I think it depends who you get, the first time I went to enquire, there was a horrid man saying ridiculous things like I was too young to get residency, I should get a work permit & I should buy a house etc (he was the bad cop!) even my Turkish partner with me said he was so rude & un-helpful! I said it is very hard to find work here and I will buy a house when am good & ready and have the security of residency... he was on duty with a woman who said I needed various photocopies, I said I had them, which ones did she want first and proceeded to take them out of my bag and she walked off! We left! I was close to tears!

The next time I went, there was a really nice one with curly hair and chubby like a tanned Charlie Brown (good cop!) speaks really good English and said I was doing the right thing applying for residency as my Visa was close to expiring & I did the residency the same morning, medical etc! Ha! Take that bad cop!!
