Has it started? Asked at Ercan three weeks ago for timetable, departure points etc. The information desk thought I'd landed from Outer Mongolia by their response! Nearly asked for their Donkey and Cart schedule, something they could relate too, but that was pushing it! Believe me, it's all eloquent b**ls**t from CTA to coax the unsuspecting customer into thinking they are providing a professional service with customer care it's main priority! Sorry have to go, just saw a pink thing in the sky with four legs! Richard

The bus service was supposed to have started many years ago. The bus stop was installed (just outside the airport on the roundabout). But as always the Taxi Drivers put a stop to it claiming, "that it would put them out of work" (and wreck their monopoly) "and that would be bad for the economy!" They just can't stand competition.

So, it's people's livliehood, and there is little else for them on the island for ordinary folk. Can't you afford the taxis? Surely, we who have so much!

The last bus to leave Ercan Airport mysteriously disappeared some years ago. Searches were made by the KKTC police and the Turkish Army but nothing was found. Even an airforce helicoptor took part but the bus had seemingly vanished. Local gossip was that the driver had driven off the highway to Famagusta to visit a sick relative in his home village and had got lost. Then reports of an eeriely lit bus sweeping through darkened villages at night started to surface and more searches were carried out but still nothing was found. A villager claimed that he saw a bus in the summer haze approaching him but when he tried to flag it down, the air cleared and then there was nothing in the road. The episode left him shocked and frightened. Last year, as I was driving through the Maesoria Plain back from Borgaz to Lefkosia, I saw an odd shape off the road. I stopped and took this photo, http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa219/Lemtich/SuperStock_1560R-2020162.jpg Lem

The bus service definitely started according to the local papers and triggered the predictable protests from taxis etc and I have seen no reports of the service stopping. Perhaps you could ask at the dolmus stop at Girne as the drivers etc generally know about what other bus services are around. I know the equivalent service in the south to Larnaca has proved very popular. I also don't see anything wrong with people catching the bus if they want to to save money. Whats the point of tracking down a cheap airfare only to spend all the savings the cab ride. Personally I would rather spend the extra on food and drink or accommodation as the case may be. Many passengers will still catch taxis anyway for the greater convenience and to avoid walking as is the case in many airports around the world that have train or bus links. Aussie

Saw the Ercan bus (have to say compared to some of the public transport vehicle's here it actually looked like a luxury coach!!) parked up outside the Colony Hotel in Girne last week with loads of locals getting on. It did have a time table on the front window so if I see it again I will try and get some details and post for those who are interested.

Lemtic You didn't see a group of school girls hanging around that bus speaking 'Strine'? Looked very similar from the one that disappeared from Hanging Rock all those decades ago. Think it could've made it to the Northern Hemisphere? Richard

Had to go into the CTA office in Girne yesterday to check on tickets booked on the internet and asked about the bus service and what time the first one left as our flight is 5.00am and the looked up the time and the first one leaves Girne at 4.30am so not of any use for us. Yes we have seen the coach outside the Colony so if you want to know the times then would suggest a visit to the CTA office.

Goes to show how much bull they come out with. When first advertised with great gusto, (launch date to be confirmed) the pitch was that every departure flight would have a connecting Bus from Girne! CTA staff at Ercan know nothing about the service. Maybe It's a grand plot for customers to miss their none refundable (ticket) flight so forced to buy another one! That might put them into profit, sell every ticket twice! Must have learnt that one from the property developers!!! Richard

petez You are joking, I trust. Given that the majority of holiday makers and the ex-pat community live in or near Girne, what on earth is an airport bus time table to Lefke, Guzelyurt and Lefkosa got to do geographicaly with where the majority wish to embark or disembark? Another CTA scam no doubt. But many thanks in trying to provide constructive information. Richard

Brinsley I would say they only posted half the timetable as there was definitely a separate Girne Ercan Service which caters for tourists etc plus all of the university students many of whom are around Girne. Aussie

I'm working on it, rowlo. Shame about my bus story, Brinsley blew it out of the water. I was hoping it would run and run like a good rumour should and further sightings get a mention on Cyprus44. Regards Lem
