Does anyone know the costs involved in learning to drive here? I am having lessons and think the costs are incredibly high. I paid 200 TL for my 5 minute theory test and 200 TL for my provisional license. My instructor tells me I now have to pay 300 TL to get stamps in my license to show I have had the required number of lessons before I can take my test. He also tells me the test costs 200 TL. It all adds up to a lot of money with 50 TL per hour lesson.

i'm interested in what you actually learn for the theory test? is that on how to drive whilst using a telephone? could it be when to jump a red light and when not to? how to make a quick getaway after crunching someone elses car when parking? how much scotch you can drink before you know your drunk and driving? i'm sure there is loads to learn, lol.

My wife used Ozbek(spelling?) near Girne police station - market road. Can't remember how much, but not as much as you quote. One of the reasons they are such poor drivers here is that you are obliged to have a minimum number of lessons before taking your test. Your instructor may actually say you are good enough and don't need that many, however you still need to pay for them. You pay full whack, he gives you a couple of lessons, no-one fails.

Could that be one of the reasons I have seen TCs going South for their driving lessons - being met at the south side of the Ledra crossing by their instructor?

Ergunes, Their main office is up the road leading to the police stn,on the left. I had several lessons in the UK beforehand and also I opted for automatic only as its one less thing to worry about when driving They also now have an office in Alsancak on the village road ,almost into Lapta

Hi, You are probably aware of this, 'cos it has been mentioned before: - The authorities on the South side will only allow EU passport holders to drive on an EU driving licence - NOT a TRNC driving licence. TCs who are crossing the Green Line using their TRNC ID cards are allowed to use TRNC driving licences. I don't know what rules apply to Foreigners who have gained TRNC citizenship and a Kimlik card - anyone else know? Keith.

i think if you pass your test here your licence is only valid for one year in the uk and you would have to take a test after that time.this is why we are thinking bout lessons in the south for our son.

All you need to know is how to steer one handed whilst talking on your mobile trying to negotiate lighting a cigarette simutaniously ignoring zebra crossings cutting up any cyclist (how dare they be on the road) and when asked for your parking skills charge up onto the nearest pavement ignoring any pedestrians 'en route' screeching to a halt still clutching your open tin of Efes. That should do it, you'll pass with flying colours! Try inserting going round the roundabout anti clockwise, plenty of brownie points there!! Richard

I am interested in taking lessons and have seen the centre nr Girne police station, this would be good as it's quite close to my house... Many thanks Natx |
