Just been told that there appears to have been a spate of dog poisoning in Ozankoy round the Club Tropicana Hotel. 3 dogs dead this morning. Take care.

it must have happened very quickly they were big dogs, a German Shepherd and a beautiful Huskie and a couple of small dogs who are missing. I`m sure this means that there is a lethal dose of strychnine somewhere out there.

Yes fazo1 they put it in meat usually, tinned meat (spam) is a favourite I have heard. People will just have to muzzle the dogs - its the only sure way I am afraid.

From experience friends had the poison was put in meat. I have also heard of it being put in sandwiches. This is just so sad. My silly dog would pick up anything if he had the chance.

How these people can do this I do not know.

These dogs were notorious for scavanging out of rubbish bin bags and causing quite a mess. Obviously the owners looked after them. For all we know it could have been a targeted attack on these dogs by puting something out in a bin bag knowing these dogs would find it. Just a theory.

Unfortunately, dogs and holiday industry don't mix.

if you have a dog from a puppy train it to not pick up whatever.

my schnauzer would never pick up or accept food from anyone other than us.

don't let your dogs behave like it, walk them on a choke chain if needed, it could save their life, cruel to be kind.

That's a really good idea but a lot of us have re-homed older dogs who seem to be virtually impossible to train. Many of them have had to scavenge to stay alive from tiny puppies so it is second nature to them to pick up anything remotely edible (& lots of things that aren't!)

Very sad to hear of the two dogs, very friendly. We live behind the Tropicana and befriended those dogs during our holiday as they were very thin. It is shocking that anyone could have poisoned them. The perpitrator should be caught- we have our suspicions but no evidence

Complain to the RSPCA in the UK, they will then put pressure on the TRNC authorities.

These dogs were allowed to run wild, chasing cars, barking at anything that moved, ripping open rubbish bins and generally making a complete nuisance of themselves. I live just down the road from the Tropicana, and although I am sorry that they have suffered this way, their passing will not be mourned by me.

Untill owners of dogs accept responsibility for their animals and environment, then poisoning will continue. It is the Cypriot way of controling their problem.

i know it must be hard to train a rescue animal.

none of my dogs would even look at a binbag, but rescue dogs do even if they are fed. take a small water bottle spray when walking them and give them a squirt everytime the go to pick up something.

mr vince

i do agree that people need to take full responsibility and control of their dogs.

i don't think you can blame it on the cypriots!

i live in a tc village and we have had one incident in the village in 4 years.

some nights it is hard to sleep but it doesn't bother the tc's, they just sleep though it.

if i am woken by a dog barking , i am wide awake and wondering whats going on, usually someone elses dog kicking off but if it were mine i would know that there was a problem because i don't allow them to just bark for the sake of it.

most dogs if they are warm , fed and exercised settle down for a good nights sleep.

Mr Vince, I hope if I ever come across you lying stiff on the ground, with froth coming out of your mouth and crap oozing out of your backside, that I will have compassion for you! They are dumb animals for God's sake. I have had a neighbour's dog die on my doorstep and was unable to do anything about it. The ignorant a***holes who do this should rot in hell. I really do hope that what goes around comes around.

frontalman - well said! These poor animals don't ask to be born. I hate cruelty to any living thing - unfortunately in the Western world it seems to be acceptable to torture a child to death because good old Social Services thought "there was nothing wrong".

Small children, like poor bloody dumb animals, do not have a voice. Like yourself, I would take the law into my own hands if ever I found someone being deliberately cruel. Just a small example; we have dogs next to us who do bark a great deal during the night sometimes - no wonder, the poor things are cooped up all day long. I would emphasise they are far from ill treated - in fact they are loved - but local people do not seem to realise that they should be let out for a while. They are, for about 1 hour every day. One of our neighbours complained that they kept him awake. A friend of a friend of a friend, etc.... told him where he could buy poison to 'shut the dogs up once and for all'. cont'd

I told them that if I had found the dogs had been poisened, then I would not hesitate to report them.

Mind you, would that have done any good, do you think?

Actually, what I said was "if I've found out you've poisoned a dog, I'l f...ing poison you"

Rant over, but it just makes me sick.

Frontalman, had you taken the time to read my last insertion you would see that I have not condoned this act of killing these dogs. What I actually said was that I would not miss them now that they are gone. I do understand what drives someone to lay down poison. We have a neighbour who breeds dogs in his front garden. We have complained till we are blue in the face to him and to any authorities we can find about the smell, rats, and rubbish and dog messs thrown over a wall into an olive grove. At one time this puppy farm had 42 dogs, some of them living in an old transit van. The noise is unbearable. So yes I understand why someone would put down poison to rid themselves of these problems. I do not condone it but I understand it.

I did read your whole posting. I did not infer that you condoned their killing, but you did say "their passing will not be mourned by me". You can't have it both ways. My point is that dogs are playful, joyous creatures, not unlike children, and do not deserve to die prematurely in agony. I have three, I should know. One of mine has been poisoned three times, but luckily survived. We keep them muzzled now through necessity when we take them out, but what a sad state of affairs. You are probably a very nice guy, Mr. Vince,my regards to you and Mrs. Vince. My anger was aimed at the perpetrators.
