We are travelling over in August to arrive iin September. We can't bring our cat overland and are in a bit of a quandry, we were going to leave him with a close relative but we are more or less decided against that now.

Does anyone offer a service, where our cat can be met off the plane, taken to quarantine and visited and fed every day until we get there? probably about 2 -3 weeks?

It would be much better if your cat could be kept in UK so it arrives after you get here. It would be a huge responsibility for a stranger to go to the quarantine kennels every day & you would have no way of knowing if they were in fact doing it.

Hello, our three cats were only in quarantine for 2 nights so it would be advisable to keep them in the UK until after your arrival. Plus there are fees to pay at the airport and to the government vet. If you are really stuck we would be quite happy to feed them for you. Whereabouts are you moving to?

Hi, I really would not recommend bringing them in July,August or September, as it will be so hot in quarantine for them. They will have no time to adjust to the heat, and there is no air-conditioning. Message 5, how did you only get 2 nights. I've never heard anyone getting better than 2 weeks unless their animal was ill or very, very old, or I think one person had a blind cat or dog.

You would be much better, keeping them in England somehow until October. As said previously, I wouldn't trust someone to go in every day for possibly 3 weeks, to clean and feed them.

Whilst quarentine should last for 3 weeks it is normal to get your animals out within 10 to 14 days but you have to pay.

We brought our animals (1 dog and 2 cats) last July and it was very very hot and difficult for them but they did adjust.

The quarentine centre DO NOT provide food and water for your animals. You are allowed to visit twice a day to feed, water them and clean out their kennels so you must be in TRNC when the animals arrive.

There is very little shade in the kennels so be prepared to rig up some sort of cover.

There are no seperate areas for dogs and cats although the individual kennels

are quite safe.

Bring some comforts for them them such as beds, toys etc as the kennels provided nothing and if visiting in the afternoon bring some water as it is frequently cut off .

The animals are checked daily by the staff and a vet is in attendance in the mornings.

Make sure your paperwork is up to date and import certificates available.

Keep tabs on the flight times etc as some pilots will not accept animals on their flights and check with your carriers when the animals have actually flown. At this end badger the quarentine centre that the animals have been collected from the airport.

If all goes well, no problems.

Good luck

Johntie

Re Message 6 we arrived in Ercan late on 31 Jan 09 and travelled to the quarantine place and deposited the 3 cats there. Went back on Sunday to feed and water them and they looked miserable. Went back on the Monday morning and Mr Mehmet said we could take them away home but keep, them confined for two weeks and he would visit us, did not see him until we went to collect the pet passports from his office. I think he was sympathetic because the kennels were undergoing renovations.

Re message 7 we will aslo be in the Karsiyaka area when our property is finished, hopefully in the next few weeks. Our cats have settled in really well and have even teamed up with some local cats.
