Hi, does the pork shop do bacon & sausages? Couldn't see them in supermarkets when we were last over.

You don't have to go far, Atakara in Alsancak had Bacon and Sausages in everyday when we were last over in Dec/Jan as did most of the supermarkets.

laptagal,

Just in case you've been looking in all the 'sensible' places, Supermarkets keep them in the Freezers!

Keith.

And...

Suasages seem to cook perfectly well from frozen - I used to thaw mine first, but my neighbour enlightened me!

Bacon is a bit of a nuisance unless you're 'pigging out' (pun!) - a one pound pack of bacon needs to be thawed out before you can extract 2 rashers from the 'block'...

They do 200 gram packs as well though, and it will keep, in a plastic bag in the fridge for a couple of days - possibly longer, but I'm a bit wary when it comes to things like that!

RE # 10: You need to shop around on the GC side to get the bargains, they are there. Just come back over and e.g. Coffee Nescafe Original at Litsas Supermarket 3.40 Euros for 250 g (NOT 200 g like Orphanides). All the shops now have Bisto prodcts in again, the great Bisto shortage is over folks.

On this side, Hur Deniz (several shops around) sell absolutely beautiful smoked bacon at 8tl for 500gms. It is fresh (in blister packs) which you can repackage before freezing if you wish. I haven't seen unsmoked except at Bells but theirs is frozen and 13tl for 500gms.

Ken & Shelly Massey from Alsancak have started making pork & leak sausages. Their pies are good so sausages should be ok.

Just tried the Pork Shop on an earlier poster's recommendation....., alcansac.....wow!!!! ......they are the best I have tasted in 18 months, beaten everything we have had so far, no more of those horrible walls / iceland frozen things. 14Tl a kilo and worth every penny.

The pork shop sells beautiful bacon, the real taste not like the frozen stuff.

Tip - Used to cook their sausages straight and they always split open. Now I put them in the microwave on medium for a short while and hey presto - no splitting. They are definitely the best around here.

The Pork Shop has its own back bacon, which looks very nice, but it's 25TL/kilo.

Jovial John, Is that frozen bacon? Went in last week and they seemed to have stopped the fresh meat counter. Do not know if they have one at the new branch on the Catakoy Road. We use to buy our fillet steak there.

The bacon is unfrozen in 500gm blister packs - they always have lots at the Alsancak store. In Girne it is in the fridges on the left as you go to the wines/spirits section.

The BEST pork sausages and bacon at the pork shop in Alsancak. Once cooked the sausages can be reheated and are just as plump and juicy as when first cooked, not full of bread and very little fat, in fact had to use fat to fry them. The bacon is not fatty either. Enjoy!

Yes Pork shop Alsancak SUPERB meat. Sausages like my grandad used to get in the 60's Our xmas turkey from there was to the best ever.

And not expensive for the quality you get, I think a lot of the cheapo frozen ones must contain sawdust fat and gristle.

Oh and a few eyelids,

Support Porky and lets keep him here, we,d miss him if he went.
