If anyone is interested, just fixed a few bob with Continental Bank this morning at 7% interest on a one year basis. It seems a great deal to me, though best to keep below the 20.000 Euro guarentee level. Michael

I'm worried at 4.5% monthly at Credit West. Just a little too much to be comfortable. Another Iceland looming? Richard

I believe you have to go into the branch and open up an account. TL interest rates are dependant on the amount you wish to deposit.

Agree! The other problem is putting your money in a place where it has the same risk but rubbish rate. Put the money in but remember the higher the return the more chance of losing it. It is a bit like roulette! Col

I assume that some of you have been residents here for quite a while, and others have had holiday homes here for a few years. Has anyone lost any money from the banks or are most doing very nicely thank you. Can fully understand the uncertainty at the moment due to the bad economic climate. but rather than say that the higher the interest the higher the risk surely focus should be on how and who the banks lend to. The ones that lend willy-nilly to potentialy risky clients [toxic loans] would be more exposed and the ones that lend in a more responsible way would be less at risk. Best to check banks background first i guess.

When I moved from HSBC to Seke Bank in Girne, the girl at Seke got out lots of information about Seke Bank to show me, what they invested in etc. I then went back to HSBC to see the manager and she recommended them, but said just make sure they are Turkish Bank and not a North Cypriot Bank.(they are Turkish) Went back again to Seke and she answered all my questions and couldn't have been more helpful. I got 17.75% 2 months ago. Stella
