Watch out if paying KDV Tax

Our builder, whom we foolishly trusted, offered to pay our taxes in full and then we reimbursed him with the cost. We received receipts for KDV and Tapu, but one of the receipts looked as if it had been altered. We went to KDV office to check that tax was in fact paid and discovered that our receipt was for 750TL more than was paid to the tax office. Our neighbour's receipt was 997TL above what was paid. Some slight of hand accounting. We got our money back by threatening to call the police for fraud. There were at least 3 copies of a "receipt" and all of them were different.



Be carefull if paying KDV to an agent to pay for you. Always check with the KDV tax office to see what was actually paid.

they are very fair in the tax office as our seller's solicitor tried it on, to get us to pay taxes owed by her client.

they soon put her in order!

Mr Vince, I would still shop the Builder to the police. These rogue builders need to be made an example of, and if everyone was to do the same just maybe they would think twice about doing it.

I think that we need to keep this up the top as I fear that there are many more buyers' out there who have been mislead (for want of a better word) by their builder where KDV is concerned.



The more buyers' who are made aware of this scam before they part with their hard earned money the better!

Tax office is down the road from the fountain roundabout. On the ground floor towards the rear of the building is an office with TAPU on the door. Take your receipt from your solicitor and ask if he has paid the KDV tax. They will look into your file. Then ask if the amount paid was the same as on your receipt. If different ask her to tell the boss on the top floor. This is when the fur will start to fly.

I am still thinking of reporting this to the police. Remember this is North Cyprus and we have little or no rights here over a Turk or Cypriot. Last thing I want to do is be shafted officially by the cousin of the next door neighbour who's kids go to the same dance class as my builders cleaning lady.

Can anyone clarify when you actually have to pay the kdv?

Is it after you have your kocan, or when you move into the property?

Checked the documents given by builder and discovered that the property tax receipt, which he told us was for our house and a neighbours' house only, turns out to be his receipt for 3 houses which he owns and 2 of my neighbours' and mine. His excuse was "6 houses for one year is same as paying for 2 houses for 3 years"???????????????



After much shouting and raised blood presure and refund of 970TL was extracted. Threats of not completing transfer thrown at me along with accusations that I had altered the origional KDV tax receipt.( message 1 refers ) Do these people not understand that blatent lies, especially when it involves my money, will not be tollerated anymore.
