Given that the procedure in Lefkosa for getting your residency has reverted to the bad old days of one jobsworth handing out tickets and provoking a general scrum, is this not a good opportunity for Messrs Day and Wyn Roberts to earn their BRS spurs and sort it out?

"CLOWN" Maternaghan when he was top man got them to change the system, so it should not be beyond the remit of the new boys to follow suit.

Let`s see what they`re made of.

Find them in India, China, Turkish wine tour or wherever, so who cares! That little organisation owes me money on a 'swift flight of hand' involving exchange rate reimbursement, long story.

In my experience that only happens first thing in a morning,go about 10.30 and the place is empty.Go into the office where you go to pay your money and ask him to put his fag and coffee down and give you a number and go to the opposite door and get sorted.

Do you think Mr Day would leave the confines of his local hostelry and his glass of house red to sort anything?

Time will tell.

Well in fairness to Mr Day he did promise change but then again he`s an ex MP so it`s probably all talk.

As for Brinsley he hasn`t got over the All Blacks capitulation in the last world cup so i`ll forgive his typographical error.

The incident I mentioned happened seven or so years ago but indicated to me the sort of principled society they are!

Re: message 7 - Mr Richard Brinsley - if that's your name - I, for one, am getting a little bit sick and tired of your "superiority" complex. You mocked my knowledge of the English language and also my typing skills and yet you provide some enormous "faux pas" of your own!

I asked you before which century you were living in and you declined to reply. However, I find it insulting that you continuously refer to the majority of us on this board as "Whinging Poms". I take exception to this. In my humble opinion (as, obviously, a Whinging Pom and, apparently an Old Colonial) that you, Mr Know-all are a pain in the arse. I think that less than 2 weeks membership and 271 posts says it all, really.

PS Mods - sorry, but this person has really wound me up. Am standing by for ban.

Brinsley; what colonial ideas of superiority?

Of course I didn`t own a pub in west London which if I am correct is quite a long way from maoriland so obviously i have a large chip on my shoulder.

Anyway the original question was; what are Messrs Day and Wyn Roberts going to do about the situation at Lefkosa residency?

I am not sure that I fully understand the meaning of this thread other than to 'slate' Mike Materhaghan by unneccessarily calling him a clown, the BRS and Stephen Day and I find it rude and honestly quite offensive that some seem members seem to think that this is acceptable behaviour.

If there is a problem that you think the BRS can help resolve, their hut is open this morning behind the Girne post office from 10am to 12 noon, you can always pay them a visit and express your concerns.

Whilst you are at it can you wallk up the road to the hospital and donate a pint of blood?

As the newly elected Mr Day has only been in position for less than a month I think it is crazy to even think he and others will be working through to a conclusion specific topics.

As for the queues etc, fire starter is correct. That is system as we now know it, it is not a problem to stand around for a couple of hours. In any case, of the 40 or so people there when we were in attendance a few weeks ago only 4 were from UK. So why should a system be changed to satisfy a few whingers!!!!! Yes, I do remember the old place behind the bus station!!!!!!

Slightly off topic, there is a superb letter from Alex Main responding to "anonymous" in last weeks CT. Why should people be allowed to "slag off" others with no comeback, if they do not want names publishing then do not write to the press etc. Give the new blood a chance, if they work out then more people will join the BRS and make it a fully pro active organisation for all rather just representing the Old Raj.

RE msg 13, cyprusishome > Why should people be allowed to "slag off" others with no comeback, if they do not want names publishing then do not write to the press <

=> I agree for 99%, but allow me some fine tuning. There *can* be reasons for anonymity, but it happens far too often in Cyprus Today. From my time as an active journalist in Holland I remember it happened once or twice a year in our daily news paper. And only the senior editor (*) made such a decision after consulting "the trusted ones" (a group of three experienced journalists). There had to be *very* good reasons.

In Cyprus Today (and as it happens this board) too many expats claim anonymity on silly grounds: afraid of this and that, the safetey of my children etc etc. In such cases I'd say stay out of public discussion. Which brings us back to cyprusishome's quote at the top.

(*) A senior editor of a Dutch news paper cannot be sacked by the publisher, which is better and different from the UK and (probably) Cypr

Scoobydoo;

Obviously you don`t understand irony, the description "clown" was applied on this forum by some of your fellow travellers who wanted to denigrate the efforts of Mike Maternaghan and his "clique" (sorry being ironic again)

As for firestarter;

would she feel the same if she had got there at 8:00 been issued with number 28 (too old to join the scrum) and finally left at 11:50?

I for one commend the work that Mike maternaghan did in representing the BRS to the government both on his own and later with the late Alan Aldridge. The sadness is in the last year that impetus would seem to have been lost.

Whereas I suppose it could be deemed a compliment that newscoop believes that the new committee members can make such a difference, the BRS committee is democratically elected and has allocated its members specific jobs. Surely then, the Government Liason officer, Colin Mulcahy, should be allowed the time and freedom to do the job he has been given.

It seems strange to me that very few people have a bad word to say about Marion Stokes (HBPG) who listens to very sad stories of woe.

But I continually hear negative comments about the BRS, who IMO listen to very minor incidents, as compared to Marion Stokes.

Could the answer lie in the fact that Marion has a different personality to the majority of BRS Committee Members (Previous Committee)?

perhaps it is because marion care takes action and is SEEN TO CARE as opposed to the old Raj who make the right noises and but will not rock the boat, ( or perhaps are perceived as not wanting to rock the boat ) ??

=> Sad posting, Nige, again. Not constructive about the BRS, as usual. Why call Mike Maternaghan "old Raj"? How about calling you "poor old sod" from (sorry, I forgot the village, probably a mining village) you're from. You've got your own board - why not post something sour there for once? - Oh, sorry, I forgot: it's happy clappy there only, ain't it?

th e answer is as in message 16, leave it to the appointed BRS government Liason representative. That is his job surely?

Lets let the new committee get on with their functions and review their progress in a few months time. They deserve at least to have the chance of showing their worth. After all we voted them in and few would question their integrity and commitment.
