hi all Has anyone out there shipped out a plasma tv, as today i was told by a local removal he would not take my goods to my container as any movement on the tv will cause the tv to go wrong, he claims it is a common occurance for this to happen with these tvs. Obviously im now abit concerned as my goods have a bit of a journey over the waters. jacko

Plasma tvs need to remain fairly upright at all times. It has something to do with the gas and structure of the screen. I'm given to understand that they import them by literally stuffing a container completely full - so that there is absolutely no shifting and sliding during transit.

hye We shipped out a 42 " TV last July in a shared container. We wrapped the TV in bubble wrap. We had kept the original box and once the TV was inside we filled any space in the box with cushions/linen/clothes - in fact anything soft that would act as padding. Once the box was taped up we plastered all over arrows pointing to the top and marked it (in Turkish and English) ,again all over, Fragile. The TV went to the UK handlers warehouse with our other household goods and then 3 weeks later we had to drop my car off to them to also be shipped. We checked the warehouse and they had put the TV on a pallet (with our other boxes) and had then shrunk wrapped the whole pallett to minimise movement. It arrived in TRNC 2 months later and was absolutely fine. It had been checked at famugusta by customs (to make sure not new !! ) and they had re-packed it and it was still upright. No problems at all. We kept the TV remote seperate (in event of it getting lost) Hope this helps.

Hye The TV was less than 12 months old (much less !!!). We were worried that we would have to pay import duty on it but , as i said, we kept the remote seperate (it came over with us ) and the instruction manual was in a seperate packaged box. all we had to pay was the broadcast fee ( for 2 TVs and 1 stereo it was 36ytl). We had included the big tv and the portable and stereo in our comprehensive shipping list. We used the words Kirilgan (without the dots on the i) and kolay kirilir (again without the dots) for equivalent of Fragile. Good luck.
