Oh No!! - Last May arrived to find empty nests in both A/C units. Cleaned mess up. Following September, same but obviously much bigger birds (pigeons, we reckoned) judging by the amount of mess. Paul spent ages cleaning walls and floors on balconies and then spent ages putting up wire netting. Now you say it doesn't work!! We are out early June (I'm, already imagining the mess), armed with some of those iron wall spikes. Thanks for the tips. J

There's a fantastic product called "Nopaloma" comes in cartidges like silicone. You apply it to the surfaces where pigeons land and they never come back. The experience is so "disturbing" for them. It doesn't harm the pigeons though. It works for about 5 years in northern Europe, not sure how it would react in the hotter and sunner climes of Cyprus.

Pigeon's are a problem worldwide, their droppings are full of ammonia, they nest in such squallor the ammonia in the droppings slowly rot the birds feet, thats why most have a foot missing or just stumps etc. they also carry desease, which you also have to be carefull about, when the shite dries & you brush it up, it then becomes airborne, and this can make you poorly!!! It's a hazzard & should be treated with respect, breathing apparatus/mask's etc. I only know this as i had to service all the motorway service station refrigeration plant & had to get in specialist to remove the mess from the units, we then purchased a plastic flying falcon hung on cat gut & it seemed to do the trick.

We arrived at our apartment fearing the worst, but the chicken wire I put up last September had done the job. I bought it at the large DIY shop in Alsancak, it's just after Green petrol station, if you are coming from Lapta, on the right hand side 4M cost around 12 TL. P Sorry we missed you Cooper!
