Water situation in Arapkoy

Have just discovered that my water tank is nearly empty. Looks like they have started early this year with rationing out the water. I have now had to get a water tanker in today. The same situation happened last year up until about September. What frustrates me is I ask the guys that deliver the water if they deliver it to the locals down in the village. The answer is no. One rule for the English I see. If anybody living in Arapkoy is intersted in going to Catalkoy Belediyesi with me to kick some ar5e...please let me know.

We did in fact do exactly that a few months ago. Our developer was doing nothing about the continual shortages,so several of us went to the upstairs in the Catalkoy office and discussed the situation with them. Luckily,one of our residents is Turkish,so there were no problems.



Within a day,the site was swarming with council workers,and lo and behold--- we now have mains water at least twice each week.



The developers excuse was that they did not have a site diagram for the water system !!!!



Amazing that they found it soon after....



Now some residents are battling to get compensated for the tankers costs they have incurred,one couple have over £600.00 to try and get back. As this is the wild west,they've no chance...

Thanks for all your support. Once we get more people to join on this thread I will set up a meeting. In the meantime talk to your neighbours and tell them about it just incase they do not use the forum. The more support we can get from both the expat and the Turkish neighbours in our community the better!

It is interesting that in the village they get water all the time but we don't. discrimination i think.

I think some of us have had a trickle of water after our tc neighbour complained to the beleydisi ...but nowhere near enough..about an large eggcup full..so if they say that we are getting water, I for one will be very annoyed..and trust me I am not nice when angry :(

Thank-you to all of you who came along to todays meeting at Catalkoy Belediyesi to give your support it was much appreciated.

For everyone who was unable to attend..The meeting went very well, or so we hope. They have promised that the water will go on everyday for 3 hours starting from Saturday morning at 6.30am. At 9.30am Muammer from the Belediyesi will be coming to see us to check that we have all had water. I am confident that this will happen.

Well done all of you, I didn't see this post until about 1pm today, so I was too late to come along, but it's great to see everyone getting together to try and make things happen. Fingers crossed we will have water. I too have already had to have a tanker this week.

Why am I not surprised with all the replies about the water? Never believe anything they tell you until it happens! Now we have no street lighting up here,

managed to get 8 gallons of AIR this morning for the 33 minutes the dial went round, before it stopped altogether. My neighbour across the road managed to get two tonnes of AIR? and to top it all as I drove through the village I spotted a hosepipe being used on a car! Probably paid for a Boswer to come in? Or has his own well?

UPDATE: My turkish neighbour who I have to say is lovely has just told me that today we had a tiny bit of water because Chelsea Village got most but tomorrow we should get some and he said is good..I think that's what he said The man from the beledyisi did come today and spoke to him..so hang fire comrades and see what happens in the morning...lol.

We had mostly air and a tiny bit of water lasting approx 45 mins. Our meter reading Saturday night..172.989...Sunday morning it read 173.094.

Funny we never had this problem with air 2 weeks ago we were getting full tanks of water. All they need to do is put it back to how it was 2 weeks ago. They have no excuse!

Thank-you to everyone and to Kibris Star who turned up at today's meeting at Catalkoy Belediyesi.

I would however just like to say that I was very disappointed at those who I emailed who said they would attend today's meeting to support us, but did not come. After all, the situation to do with the water in Arapkoy would have applied to all living in Arapkoy and not just to the six of us who turned up to the meeting. Anyway the good news is we have been promised water every day from now on, so fingers crossed



For anyone who is interested the story will be in Friday's paper and on the TV...fame at last...lol

I can't believe, after all the lobbying, that the Belidisi still aren't playing ball. It's not as if it hasn't rained! There must be water stored somewhere so why not give people what they've paid for. Are you rallying the troops again, Sara?

Well they promised us water at the end of last week and we got some on Friday and Saturday but none since.I did not really benefit from getting that water because on the Thursday I had a water tanker delivery, therefore my water tanks were full from that. All I can say is what a bunch of lying B****rds! :(

We have similar problems to you, ie low water pressure, and we have negotiated with lapta beledeye to deliver us water by tanker 5 times a month. Although they say they are under no obligation to do this, they have been very helpful so far as our problem is going to be quite a big problem to put right. Could you not ask your water dept if tis is possible for you.

Maybe some guys playing about with the mains Tap in the road at the junction by turning it off directing the water flow & getting more pressure in his or their direction ? this happend to us . But we found out !!!!

Thanks Mindy.. The problem we are facing is they just do not want to give us water. I found out yesterday that a neighbour who lives down the road from us complained the same as we did to the Belediyesi last October. Now I am really p***ed off that they told him in 1 month we will have the new storage/pumping station finished and you will then get water. Thats what they told us, but they have continued to lie to us and to the Kibris Star reporter and to Cyprus today. They have not even started with any pipe work at the new storage station. If we do not get water on Friday and Saturday I am going back to the Belediyesi next week. Anyone interested in coming please let me know. I am not going to give up and will continue to fight this until we get the water we are entitled too.This is a classic case of we do not want the English to have any water!

Alano I did speak to the reporter guy again on Tuesday and told him that we are still not getting water. He is going to contact the Belediyesi again. Yes, good idea I shall get the reporter to come along once again to the next meeting!
