Hi all, Many thanks to all the people who submitted questions to Legal Expert Naomi Mehmet last week. I know some were from people on this forum. You can see her answers here... http://www.lincguide.com/review/2009/04/legal-questions-answered/ it was impossible for her to answer all the questions, but we tried to pick a cross section and hopefully they will shed some light on some important questions..

BEWARE of downloading the above contact thread, full of bugs and viruses to the extent of having to re-boot and loosing programs. I wonder how legit it is! Richard

RE Message 2. I am the owner of the website, there are no bugs, viruses or anything else on my website and i am disgusted and annoyed that you have suggested so! Lincguide.com is a website with information about Northern Cyprus, anyone can read my previous posts to see it is a legit website and bug free! Brinsley why are you trying to stop people reading this advice. You are a very sad individual for posting what you have done. Naomi Memhet has given her time free of charge to answer questions to people regarding issues. If anyone has doubts on this website, contact Izzet from this website for information on it!

I am interested in peoples opinions on the answer given regarding pre 74 Turkish Title deeds not being granted. What would you consider to be the best solution? The long lease or putting deeds into Trust with a TC or law firm? All have disadvantages and are not without future problems and additional expense. So much for this title deed being 100% safe and internationally recognised. Any discussion and opinions would be welcome especially from Elko who might be able to help us identify the best option available or even suggest other alternatives. Thanks Petez and Niomi for all the help given.

Thanks indeed to Petez & Naomi Mehmet who has provided concise well written answers to the questions for no financial gain. The service given by some of the lawyers here is abysmal & they may even be considered negligent if they were in UK. I know who I would chose as a lawyer if I was in need of one at the moment!

RE msg 14, DC4 > Is Naomi Mehmet a fully qualified solicitor or an advocaat? < => Although I'm not quite familiar with the British/TRNC judicial system I understand that there are NO solicitors in Northern Cyprus. (Maybe Ismet can make me stand corrected?).

A good way of creating publicity in hard times. It's a real shame that so called TRNC 'lawyers' are held in such low esteem but they don't seem to care. Not surprising though is it, from the tales of woe of greed, corruption and incompetance too often heard about. They do not appear to be legally qualified (certainly not to UK Law Society or Bar Council standards), do not believe they owe their 'clients' a duty of care, are unregulated and hold no indemnity insurance. Good to see Naomi Memet attempting to give some answers to serious questions. Pity the lawyers and politicians don't attempt to rectify the issues though.

Good points Martin. Us Brits are used to not trusting Estate Agents through our dealings in the UK. However , with "Solicitors",we expect them to act with integrity , honesty , and above all to have a duty of care to us...their clients ! People MUST face up to the fact that this will NOT happen in the TRNC and they should be very vigilant to protect their own interests.

Witchfinder....we too are pleased with the service offered by our own solicitor. However....we still do not have PTP or our Kocan....and until such time it would be foolish on my part to make any recommendations. By the way....did your solicitor manage to get anywhere with your £6500 claim for late completion?

We could put in a claim for late completion but that would cost more money and we dont want to waste any more time & money chasing some thing that will never happen. We have paid enough out as it is and still paying we just want to stay in our holiday home and enjoy it while we can we are getting a bit closer but not close enough.

So did she advise anyone at all not to part with any money at all until they had thier PTP as it is the Law, or did she advise that it is OK to buy the PTP it is only a formality??

RE msg 36, petez: (...) In case you haven't read them yet, here are Naomi's latest batch of answers to her legal questions. (...) Pete: Five ***** for this idea, five ***** for Mrs. Naomi Mehmet for her clear explanations. Best thread of all the TRNC bulletin boards/web sites. Very, very useful.

What's the point when she will not even return my few email questions. When the 'Bar Council' who are supposed to oversee their 'profession' to maintain ethical practices are not willing or able to do so, it makes a mockery of all the legal institutions. However, they can still maintain their £50K Mercedes, BMW's, Porsches, Range Rovers etc. Funny about that! Richard

Richard Brinsley and rtddci are absolutely right - no 'ifs' or 'buts'. If anyone has any doubts or questions, simply ask HBPG by email; or, better still, attend one of their meetings at the 'Pia Bella Hotel' at 1200-1500Hrs on Tuesdays.

"Please come in and sit down, what can I do for you?" £50 "I need help as the two previous Advocates I appointed to complete all legal niceties took my money and seem to have done nothing" " I see, do you have any legal documentation of this?" £50 "If I had I wouldn't be here now!" "What do you have?" £50 " A diary and receipts, here, I have photo copies for you" "I see, so what do you wish me to do" £50 "well, cross reference my name with all the relevant Government Departments and see if anything has or not been done" "I'll see what I can do, now I'm very busy and will contact you, please pay my secretary on leaving, £50 plus £200, so that's £250. Nice meeting you, will be in touch, goodbye" Richard
