We have a plot of approx 35sq metre and have received approximate prices from Easylawns. Comparing costs to the UK it seems a little expensive, but just wondered whether anyone could recommend them or anyone else? There could possibly be another 3 neighbouring apartments that could be interested too. Many thanks.

Hi my son is a proffesional carpet layer, he has been seriously considering bringing artifical grass to TRNC. But as usual the BIG PROB is a work permit. We have located a superior product in the UK. It really looks like grass, down to a little moss!! Retail price in the UK is about £35 square metre. The cheaper grass is about £10square metre. The laying of the cheaper product needs sand rubbed into the layed grass, Seeing the product I presume this is to do with the weave being a little thinner. You just need a firm level base that will drain. A top weed membrane. Then the Grass, to have a proffessional carpet layer with the correct tools is on par with our selves laying a carpet. Anyway he wood fit by the yard, and then be able to pass on the trade savings to the customer. Obviously the products in the TRNC would be different. Look on the http://www.evergreensuk.com site they export.

Thanks Geoff and Gillken Price we've had is a 25mm Duo Grass the cost of which is £23 per sq mtr. Price includes: Site Survey Stomping of the ground A layer of fine shingle Covering the area with underlay laying and fixing of the grass Applying a cover of sand over the grass and brushed into the grass The grass manufacturers guarantee the grass for a period of 5 years but the life expectancy is around 15 to 20 years plus. The grass will not discolour in hot weather and can withstand temperatures of up to 60 degs. +, so I guess what I have been quoted sounds quite a good deal?

We had a price of £20-25 per sqm, depending on the amount of groundwork to be done, from Mediterranean Gardener, so your price seems to be average. We had no mention of brushing sand in though, is that necessary? I've seen the 'grass' down, but don't know the thickness.

I want to put the 'grass' down on my roof terrace, so no need for any prep work. So should i be looking at around £20 per sq meter? Hi Gill, you can tell Ken, he's welcome to tee off anytime, but not with those woods, ( bandit!!! )

Hi, just laying mine now, I bought in the uk and brought it out in the container from the uk last year, cost was £25 a square metre..so with import tax a comparable grade would probably be i the range £35 / metre. I spent some time at the factory in uk looking at the different grades and qualities, and how to lay it, and bought the most expensive as all the others which were cheaper looked, well, totally "artificial". I have laid it on compacted stabiliser, then an inch of coarse sand, then a porus membrane, and yes, mine does need sand on it, that's how you hold it in place, and some sort of edging is a must, I am using paving slabs to create a border up to the grass edge. I have seen several efforts at making gardens over here and frankly they are not very good, you do need carpet fitters hands to lay it well, not a general builder lol best regards tonye

Tolga in Karsiyaka supplies and fits this grass. He was the original importer a few years ago and laid the Mediterranean Gardener's grass for him. He has also done repair work on lawns that have been fitted by other suppliers. He can be contacted via this website http://www.northcyprusgardeningservices.com/index.htm

We had our lawns fitted by Choice floors, they are new to grass installations but are hugely competitive against the big guns like as good as grass. I'm not sure what their scale of work is but our garden is 8m x 4m and they completed the groundwork fantastically, producing a perfectly flat lawn, if you have a look at their site at http://www.choice-floors.co.uk, it will tell u more.

I was at the consumer fair in Lefkosa yesterday. There was someone selling artificial grass there. It was lovely to walk on. They had different lengths of grass and some different colours. It was between 10 - 22 euros per sq.metre. I am not at home now but I have a brochure and will post the info here later

I brought over a roll of putting green quality grass with me on the container. Evergreen garden centre laid it for me..... Concrete base, paving flags up to each edge, so now it is sunk into a hole with rough, unfinished paving slab edges surrounding it, doesn't drain etc & just collects whatever rubbish blows onto it. Can't brush it as nowhere for it to go. Think I will have to deck over the top of it. What a total waste of money. (charged me 1,215 lira to lay it & pave around it) Witheld the last 215 lira as was so unhappy, he rang me & threatened to come round & break my neck if I didn't pay up. Had to as here by myself & felt very threatened). Word of warnng.

I would definitely recommend Chrys and Paul. They did my friends garden and they have never look back! It looks fantastic and no maintenance. What more could you ask for!

"i got my artificial grass two years ago and am really pleased with it" If you'd paid £65 for a half-ounce of the stuff thinking it was the real thing you would not be pleased.

In my humble opinion there is nothing wrong with the product, you get what you pay for, and the more expensive quality artificial grasses are superb imitations, remember that word. The problem is in the laying by people in business who do not actually have any knowledge of, quite frankly, anything that is in the least slightly technical, and there are a lot of them in the TRNC. If you are laying 40m square, work out the amount of rain that will fall in the wet season and think where it is going to go, you need a slight slope to drain the lawn and a way to gulley off the surplus water. The base needs to be 2 inches of stabliser, graded with a coarse sand on the top and compacted several times with a vibrating plate, then the edges chamfered down to drop the grass edge below the slabs.. do you see this being done? Paving slabs need to be laid in a regular fashion, in cement on a compacted base with level lines and the grass carpet fitted with care, then sanded on top. Tony
