Recording satellite TV (Dopi TV in this case)

Can anyone tell me what equipment I need to record, freeze programmes etc.. from a satellite connnection. I am considering buying a PVR (hard disk recorder) to bring over next week but want to be sure it will record!!!

I can't really see what his problem is, you go into a shop, tell 'em what you want to do, and they flog you the gear!

At the risk of sounding smart (mmmmm - You would recognise that symptom). does a DVD recorder allow you to freeze a programme and go for a p***, - come back and restart the programme?? Timeshifting smarties would call it.

KeithCaley - never thought of that one - I'll go into PC World, explain satellite thingy, tell them I'm going to Cyprus and they will sell me the right gear. Yeah doh - I come up the Clyde in a bubble!!! Can anyone give me a sensible answer - mmmm - you know everything!

Buy a dreambox 800 hd which you can purchase a seperate hard disk and would be able to record programmes with.

That was a serious suggestion.

I thought that as you don't seem to know much about it, the best bet is to explain what you want, and if they sell you something 'unsuitable for the purpose', just get a refund.

You said that it was 'to bring over next week' - does that mean that you are moving permanently next week, and will be unable to return the item if it is unsuitable? If that is the case, then you did not make it clear.

I think that Mark's idea of a DVD recorder (with a hard drive) is the simplest, and YES, they will allow you to pause while you go for a p*** - you can even go for a S**T if you want. See: -

Then again I know how helpful some of the members on this forum can be, so thought I would just ask, go through the unhelpful "smart" replies, and then after all this I would get an answer! Easy.
