No you won't need a visa. When you get to the Turkish crossing point you produce you passports and they book you in. If you don't want you passport stamped you can ask them for a paper slip to fill in your details and they stamp that. Keep this slip with you all times though. You will also need to purchase car insurance at the Turkish side, and bear in mind this is for third party only...so drive carefully.

sjw1979 If I were you I would think twice about hiring a car in the south and taking it to the north, you are only covered by 3rd party insurance, if you have a prang or a breakdown it is your responsibilty to return the car to the hire company in the south, they will not help you. Remember the standard of driving in the TRNC is poor, in 2007 there were 47 deaths in traffic accidents, this works out at about 17 out of every 100,000 whereas in Europe the average annual death toll is only 4-5 people in every 100,000. The number of road deaths in the TRNC has decreased over the last 3 years but as you can see from the statistics you appear to be more than 3 times likely to be killed in a road accident than you are in Europe.

SJW1979 I use Erols rent a car who can be contacted on euslucan@kktc.net my contact there is Bessie. Small car £14 a day. They can arrange picking you up at the airport and then deliver the car to your hotel/property the next day and then will take you back to the airport on departure

All the car hire companies more or less offer the same service, just vary in price by a few pounds per day. Erol's cars are Lapta, but Ali at Acmenya is also very good. Ford focus about 15pounds a day. As JamesB said if you rent car for at least a week they will pick you up from Ercan free of charge, but you will have to pay if you want collecting from Larnaca. send them an email they usually are prompt with their response acmenya@superonline.com

| sjw1979 I suggest you trial to haggle the price as there aren't many tourists around in March so you should be able to get a hire car in the North for around £10 per day for a Focus. Get a price from someone like Bird rentacar then ring around (or e-mail) to get a cheaper quote. Many of the hire Companies will collect you from Larnaca if you are going to hire a car from them.
