I am thinking of moving my two boys from their current school (Sunny Lane) and would like to know about any good state schools in or around the Catalkoy area.

What are the good points about state schools and what are the bad?

I would appreciate any honest feedback on this subject, as I would like to change their schools before September.

Thanks to all that give me advice.

Depends on their ages.

19 Mayis school is a Turk Marif College next to the Nicosia roundabout in Girne. I believe that they are going back to teaching in English and there is a bus service to/from Catalkoy.

When we moved here my son was registered there but they changed the teaching medium to Turkish almost the day he started so after a year we took him out.

did the same as you last year moved my son from Suny Lane to state the younger the better, as they will pick up the language a lot quicker as well.

The private schools do not do enough Turkish and this is needed in this country

Our son went to state school and never did him any harm at all, when he finished school here he went back to the UK into collage then to Uni and next month he gets his Call to the bar (Grays inn) and then fully qualified barrister.

State schools will be closed by then for their summer hols. When they re-open ın September you will need to a Muktars letter confirming the address you living at and to memory there is an Alsancak Primary school in the village . Normally the secreteries are there from arround the 5th of September all you have to do is go in and see them they will give you a registration date and advise you upon any other documents you will need.

You will be surprised with amount of english children there is in state schools.

Hi Libby my family are thinking of relocating to northern cyprus.I was interested in more information about the state school in Catalkoy.Could I ring you? I tried to call on the number you gave earlier in January but used

0090533 8458279 as we are in southern cyprus. This number did not work.

Many thanks, Elaine

Hi,i am at the moment living in southern spain,2 children, ages 8 and 3.

We are planning on moving over to kyrenia next year and would like our daughter to go to a private school as she has been in spanish school for the last 2 years and although she has done really well we feel she would struggle in another country learning a new language all over again while trying to learn.

she has had great benefits of being in the state school as she has the language masterd,so my question is,although private school would be best for her,i would like to know if anyone would give me some advice regarding my 3 year old,i thought it may be an advantage to start him in a state pre school so he can learn the language, and at age 6 move him onto private.

any advice would be great, and if anyone could tell me what the best state and private schools are near kyrenia. Thanks
