Is there a way of working out how much a pool will cost annually to run depending on its size and depth?

Friends are looking at having a villa built with a pool and want an idea on cost of running. Builders have said one thing but want some independant advice. They dont know yet how long or deep to build it and want costings first.

Thanks

Do not know of Calc, but estimatemy 8 x 4 has cost following for last year

Cleaning 600 sterling,

Electric 400 ytl

water top up 600 ytl, converting at exchange rate of 2.5 (for ease) this would = total 2500ytl/annum

therefore 1 cm = approx 52ytl p/a

All above good est

japeal,

I wouldn't argue with your estimates, they may be accurate, they may not - I don't know.

However, your calculation leaves me a little baffled.

An 8x4 pool has a surface area of 32 square metres.

2500 TL divided by 32 gives approx 78 TL per square metre (per annum).

What does the "1 cm = approx 52ytl p/a" mean?

Regards,

Keith.

Japeal,

How deep is your pool? I would have thought that the deepth would also effect the running costs.

Thanks.

Hi, 8 x 4 and x approx 1.5 to get 48 cu/m

sorry missed 'u' off cm should be cu/m

divided annual cost by 48 to get approx cu/m price. As I say only an estimate of what it has cost me for 1 year.

japeal,

Thanks for that!

It is now clear.

Small(ish) pools probably use a 1HP motor, while bigger ones, say 12 x 4 mtrs probably use a 1.5HP motor.

Running times could be 4 hrs per day in summer, 2 hours per day in winter, so an average of 3 hrs per day over the year. 1 HP = approx 0.75KW

So, electricity use for a small pool might be 365x3x1x0.75 = 821KWH,

& for a large pool, 365x3x1.5x0.75 = 1.232KWH

Unoccupied villa, own KibTek meter, all cheap rate, so the electricity costs for Large & Small pools would be 1232 x 0.3 = 370TL & 821 x 0.3 = 246TL.

Occupied villa, with 3 people using electricity, on Builder's Rate the electricity costs could be: -

1232 x 0.9 = 1,109TL & 821 x 0.9 = 739TL respectively.

If using contractor to clean / maintain the pool, look at 1,500 to 2,500 TL per annum for a smallish pool, and 2,000 to 3,250 TL for a larger pool.

For DIY, allow 400 to 600 TL for chemicals.

Prices 'approx, per annum'

Vaughan gave a price for a cleaning/test kit elsewhere.

Typo!

I meant to say 12 x 6 mtrs as an example of a 'larger' pool
